Sally Goat died yesterday, vet doesn't know why

Three nights ago I noticed that Sally Goat was not running up to the fence to get her nightly treat of a couple of crackers. She usually pushes her mama and two half brothers out of the way but she wasn't even interested. Just sitting there looking around.
On Friday I called the vet to come to the farm because she still "just didn't seem right."
Her blood levels looked good so didn't appear to be parasites, she had no fever, and he said her lungs sound really clear "except" for possibly just a little rattle. She was standing up drinking water and he gave her a shot of the antibiotic Nuflor.
Yesterday she still wasn't herself but I was hoping the meds would kick in.
When I checked on her at 1:30 her nose was running and she was kind of taking short breaths. I called the vet and he said the antibiotic should last about three to four days and I was to check back with him on Monday.
She died within the hour. Didn't put her head backwards like most goats do just kind of fell head forward into the earth. Still with no noticeable fever.
She was a seven to eight year old Nubian-Boer cross and had never ever been sick before. Her mama (who is much smaller than her) stayed right with her til the end and then gave us an awful forlorn look as we dragged her out of there.
Her two brothers (one a full brother and one a half brother with a different mama and both wethers) are both one to two years older than her and they and the mama both appear fine today.
The five pygmies in the front little pasture also seem to be fine.
Was it just her heart? was it just her time to go?
At least she is no longer suffering. She was FILLED with personality and was into all sorts of things but was never ever a minute's trouble and was always a joyful goat.

I'm sorry you lost her. You certainly were a concerned owner to known something was wrong with so little to go on.
I do wonder if she had a heart problem because it would account for what you saw.

I'm so sorry. It surprises me that they can go so quick. Seeming a 'little off' wouldn't have tripped any alarms for me. Because of this site, I take more notice now.

My heart goes out to you.

Oh no I'm so very sorry
The thing about Nuflor is that goats generally need a dose every day. Vets are stuck on the long acting theory but goats are different! You are better off getting a bottle and administering it yourself. You can get dosages here.
I also wonder if the vet gave her enough of a dose. I'm sorry to be questioning your vet but I have just had bad experience with vets knowing anything about goats. I have had to be proactive and convince vets that I need this or that. I had to do it with Nuflor once. I am not saying that this would have saved your girl but this is a learning forum and I just want to give the heads up to people to really question and research things like pnemonia and parasites.
((((hugs)))) RIP dear Sally goat
