Breeding plan options
As most know, I really want a mini-saanen doe. I have a few options that have presented themselves and I would LOVE input.
1) I can get a full-sized Saanen doe that will be a yearling this spring. I have access to a nice ND buck who can breed her. I only have 1.5 acres in an older neighborhood and I worry about having enough space for her. My thoughts include selling her after kidding, thereby freeing up space and I can keep a doeling (provided she throws one) as an F1 and go from there. It would be nice to get my money back out of her, have some extra milk while she's around, and get some kids. Truthfully, it feels kinda yucky to keep her around just long enough to kid and then boot her. The breeder is actually coming to my city and could deliver her to me for no charge.
2) I know of a breeder whose Saanen is currently pregnant (with minis) and due to kid January 15th. I am first on the list for a doeling. It would be about 1.5 years before she would be expected to have any kids. I am driving home from FL to IN and would be able to detour on the way home to NC to get her. She'd only be about 6 weeks, so would I have to bottle feed her?
Thoughts? What would you do?
