I'm not an expert but I've read that copper deficiency causes this. You will need to copper Bolus them if others agree.

I have treated a mangy goat and it caused scaly patches but never in the bare spots- always in the hair.

If you are dealing with mites, than the poor thing should be itching like crazy. I've read that Zinc deficiency can be an issue. It will take multiple treatments to clear mange.

Could also be sore mouth (aka Orf), as it's under his tail.
I'd treat with copper, zinc, and be sure he's on a good loose mineral or Replamin Plus, orally.
If it's sore mouth, it just has to run its course.
If it's mites, I would treat with Cylence pour on.

I would also treat with Copper bolues & Zinc for any deficiency but if it's mites the only way to get rid of them is Ivermectin inj. & this time it's best to inject it. Needs to be done every 10 days for 3 treatments.

If you had mentioned the mouth area, it sounds like sore mouth, which can infect under the tail and around the eyes.
BTW I did see a picture of mange effecting the area around the eyes so it is possible. If it is, you'll want to get on it asap.

My friend has a goat who has had bald eyes, mouth, nose, and under tail since it was about 7 months of age. We've tried everything and it has NEVER gotten better... it has never been any worse for wear so we just let 'em be. He's about 8 now if I remember correctly.
Hers is a wether. If it doesn't get better with improvement of mineral status (if that is the issue) and does not respond to any other treatment, I'm not sure I'd keep it as a breeding candidate.

thank you for all of the help i will be treating with the ivermectin for three treatments, and i will get more copper and zinc for him in addition to the minerals he is already getting, I do find it interesting that none of the other goats are affected by this , so maybe it is a mineral def.. the rest of his coat is very healthy , and shinny as well, it just doesnt seem to go together, you would think his coat would not look as well as it does with the other stuff going on?? they do seem to keep you guessing , i have had goats for 17 years and never had this before.thank you again!!

When I had a goat with mites none of the others got them either. Just that one.
Good luck with your little guy.
