Info - goat - short cycling heats

I have a Mini LaMancha who is driving us (and herself) nuts with short cycling. She is coming into heat every couple of weeks and becoming frantic on the milk stand and making a fool of herself by the fence closest to the buck pen.

I've made a request to the veterinarian for cystorelin. Here's the pertinent info and a link to more .....

Follicular cysts arise from mature follicles which do not ovulate and are more or less luteinised. The presence of these follicles results in irregular and repeated oestrus leading to nymphomania. The follicular cysts are caused by an insufficient secretion of gonadotrophic luteinising hormone (LH) by the pituitary.

easy peasy fix... a bottle of cystorelin costs about $20.. we do 1cc at the time of breeding.. another 1cc 24 hours later... NEVER had a cytic/short cycling doe NOT become pregnant and carry kids to term.. (we use to have short cycling a lot more often back when we fed feed with soy in it).. this year I had one doe short cycle once (I think her's was from the Cidr).. cystorelin is one of the drugs I always have on hand (same as with lute & dex).. I do get a new bottle whenever the old one gets close to expiration date.. keep it cold in the fridge

good luck getting your girl straightened out and bred.

Yep, I had a doeling with this issue this year, which is pretty unusual (more common in older does). She had one heat, then another a week later (not uncommon), but that second heat, she stayed in for like 2 WEEKS! She would mount everyone, and was just generally obnoxious. Gave her the cystorelin, and she went out a couple days later--then she came back in a few days after that, and we gave the shot again. Hasn't been in heat since, so I'm hopeful she's bred...it's been 16 days since that.

I was *hoping* to milk her through if she wasn't pregnant already from a breeding that occurred in Missouri before I left there. I don't have a mini buck here in Texas.

Now, I just need her to be normal. She's totally schizoid now.

If I can't get the med here, I'll pick it up in Missouri next week.

I had a doe like that once. I never associated it with a cyst though.

I had leased a buck and he had just returned from another lease at a dairy.

After he bred the first doe she got an infection but it did damage and she did the thing where she came in like every 10 or 15 days but it was not fertile.

I milked her thru and she kidded normally the next time. Only thing I gave her though was penicillin.

She was a smoking milker. I had her on a one day test at 418 days in milk and she milked 14 lbs.
