update on Chloe's severed tendons

Today was the unveiling of Chloe's wound.. (she's been in a cast for 3 wks.).. we needed to open it up.. see if the tendon repair was holding.. check for healing (infection) in the huge wound she had (she spooked when the LGD came around the corner and tried to FLY over the small barn.. with all it's brand new SHARP tin on the roof.. sliced her front right leg wide open.. exposed 3 inches of bone and severed both tendons just below the knee)... vet visit was wonderful.. she is healing well.. no infection at all.. the repair is holding well enough that she could walk on it, unbraced.. she is back in a new cast for at least 3 more weeks.. (living in the kidding barn with her mom until she is totally recovered).. she was such a good girl today.. fell all the way asleep while they were working on her.. had to literally bump and shake on her to wake her up.. so we could see if it would hold weight...We took her in the goat tote (unlike the night it happened and I put her in my car!).. to keep her as little stressed as possible, we took her dam along for the ride... she too was calm and well mannered.. (oh, when I posted the night of the accident, I was clueless how much the after hours visit and surgery was going to cost.. It ended up only being $185 ... which I think was more then fair...we have high hopes that the repair will hold.. (but.. on the off chance that it does fail.. I have already arranged to have plates put in and fusing the wrist.. so she can still live a long and happy life.. and be able to still go out and browse with the herd...

susie, who sighed a big ol' sigh of relief when she saw how beautiful and clean that wound looked when we opened the cast!!

Whew!! Such a relief - and, as you said, a more than fair fee.

So glad for you, and for Miss Chloe!

That's very good. I bet you were holding your breath as they sawed through the cast though!

That's great. I have a bad feeling that most people don't have your quality of goat doctor.

Awesome news -so happy she is healing well! Certainly hope the leg is good as new when this process is over. She and Desi won't know what to do when they have to give up the private suite!
