New goat room...

I started out last spring with 1 horse and 1 goat. As you know, goats are habit forming and I now have 3. The run in shed I'd had built wasn't roomy enough. My epically wonderful and patient husband, and a helpful neighbor added on to the shed and I am so pleased with the results.

That is beautiful! I bet they love it Nice job.
Keep an eye on that rope to keep the horse out...I put one of those up and one of my horses was able to duck underneath it. I can't believe he would do it! He is usually a chicken about everything!

Yes, the rope might need to be bolstered up. The horse is pretty good about staying where she should be, so it may be fine. Things can be tweaked if needed. I am so happy to have my goats have their own wind free space!

It looks very nice and comfy. The only thing I might do is cover the glass (if it is glass that is) with some fencing. That way the goats can't knock it out or break it.

trnubian, there is hardware cloth over the inside of the window. I am not sure if I need to cover the outside or not. Thoughts?

I crossed two boards at my door to the goat stalls. The goats can get through but the horses don't even try. I'll try to get a pic tomorrow.

Outside definately would not hurt. If they can reach it with their feet they can do damage.

What an exciting blog you have. Nicely done!

Good looking shed too! I would agree with others those windows really need to be protected. Shattered glass is not something you want on the ground where your goats are.

Thanks everyone. Found my Halflinger in the goat side last night. Not quite sure HOW she got her fat self through that narrow door and under that rope, but she did. I need to find a way to barricade the door so I can get in (to feed and clean) and the goats can get in/out but the horse stays put. Suggestions welcome!!

haha! that is the same thing I said to my horse. But I called him a fat um butt! lol
The only thing that that comes to mind is maybe something more solid on hinges with a latch that has an opening just big enough for the goats.

Maybe a door made from a board down low, another up a little higher, that has space for goats to fit between, with some connecting pieces for the vertical sides and hinged. Or, get one of those green metal gates made for horses and cattle. Goats should be able to fit through, horse no.
