Dgvastated and angry
My husband and I had to go to a funeral leaving my brother-in-law to care for the animals. I was fine with him not milking Toast for a few days but I did expect him to feed them. He lives in our basement so it's not like he had to travel out of his way to do it. Gemini didn't survive not being fed and the temperature dropping to below freezing.
I'm just so sad and can't stop balling my eyes out. This is the 3rd bottle baby
I've lost and my heart just can't take this. I was very attatched her because she was a housegoat for the first couple weeks I had her...my husband even let her sleep on the bed in our camp trailer.

Get him OUT of your basement.
That's just evil.

What kind of a lazy jack@ss lets an animal starve and freeze to death? The first thing that popped into my head was SSS. Since that's not really an option, throw his behind out!

Wow. Kick him to the curb. If my brother did that. The kicking to the curb wouldn't be the only kicking I would be doing.

Duty to family only goes so far. Its time for him to leave.
I don't care how lazy you are, what kind of problems you have, you had better at least feed the animals if you're going to living in my house.
There is NO excuse for what he did.
Good bye dear brother(in-law), now GET OUT.

No excuse. None at all.

I am so so sorry!! That is horrible.. I would kick him out so fast his head would spin! It would be hard to not cause him physical harm. That just makes me sick.

Evil was done not only to poor Gem but to you by this BIL. I cannot imagine this happening to me. It's horrible and there is no excuse that would ever be acceptable. If he didn't want to do it he should have said so.
I hardly ever use the term murder when talking about animals but this was murder.

There is no excuse for starving animals. It may be time for tough love for the bil.

I so sorry you lost your baby goat. I don't know the story of your brother-in-law and why he's living in your basement but I'm also sorry that you now have a very justifiable anger to deal with him too.
Enough ugly to have a funeral lead to the lost of your kid and emotional baggage with your BIL.

I'd kick the dude out after that.
That said, raise all my kids on the bottle and basically I never leave the farm till they are weaned. It's just too intense a task to trust with somebody else I think.

There are just no words to adequately respond, Squeaky. Barring being in a coma, I can't imagine a person who would allow something like this to happen. Get him out of your house.

Well, my husband says we can't afford to kick him out. He also has a 4 year old. He did basically foot the bill for us to travel to my grandpa's funeral and stay in a hotel. I'm just so mad. He was supposed to be only staying a month while he was working out of town so he could come home on weekends to see his son. This was a YEAR ago. Then my husband bought a tent trailer which has been wonderful for camping with the kids (Gemini included) but it hasput us in debt so that we need my bil's paycheck

I feel horrible for you and the loss of your goat, but BIL or not, money or not, I would put him out AND have him arrested for Animal Cruelty!

So sell the trailer and be done with it.
We dont' know the full dynamics of what's going on, but it sure sounds like my brother. He would use and use and take and take until .....
Well, it just sounds like you need to get rid of the trailer, and find a way to explain that the one month you agreed to give him a place to stay is up and he needs to find his own place.
you NEED your husband on board with this plan, or you need to just get used the situation and NEVER give him any chance to harm the animals again.

I would tell the husband that I feel the lousy SOB needs to be OUT. I don't care who it was, if I said "OUT" I don't want to hear "Oh he gives us money, or he needs X". The guy killed your animals through sheer laziness and neglect. I would probably turn him in for animal neglect/cruelty too.
I agree, sell the camper trailer and get rid of that guy immediately. He just stabbed you in the back and is obviously not trustworthy to keep around the house. How can anyone listen to starving animals(And I've never met a hungry goat that didn't get loud about it) and do NOTHING to feed them??
