After castration question.

Ok black spot patches is castrated. We castrated him november 2. He has been away from the group for over a month prior to castration. If he had viable sperm before castration (vet doubts he did) how long shall I keep him away from the girls?

Banded, surgical or Burdizzo?

I believe Burdizzo is 3 to 4 weeks, and make sure they're both COMPLETELY shriveled.

Banded, when they drop off

Surgical, would think immediately? Anyone.

Some people say a couple days after castration for separation. I've never separated them, though I've never done an adult/older buck. I just do young bucklings around 4-8 weeks of age.

I was told by my vet that they can be fertile for up to 2 weeks after surgical removal. I've never quite figured that out, but will keep the older ones separated for a couple weeks just to be sure.

I would think at least a few weeks since in men after a vas it takes 6 weeks. A little less time makes since due to the "holding tanks" being gone. LOL

That's what my thinking was. I could put the already settled girls in with him. He is so sad. I feel bad for him. I'm just a sucker! I know I am. I sold the greatest milk line boys for meat. And this guy is still here. For the simple fact my children grew so attached to him.
