Our Cabin Is Stained (w/pumpkins,also!)
This was an enormous job! My elderly husband (he is actually older than I am, but no one believes that!...both in our 70's) did this almost entirely by himself (I held the ladder and painted the shutters). He started in September and there is actually a second coat still to be applied on the side of the cabin you cannot see...it will get done!!! What a relief to have it allmost done. All the logs had to be sanded individually, lots of "tuck pointing" - or whatever you call what you do to logs (?) and finally two coats of stain. We have told the kids that they will do it next time because we will be in our 90's...if we are even around! I think he deserves a great round of applause! Quite a guy, my dear one is...just had to share the amazing work one old geezer and a nagging wife can accomplish (have to get my applause, too!) lol

I'll take a bow! You both know that no man would work this hard without a woman behind him threatening and hollering. Ain't love grand?
Seriously, NEVER AGAIN! for either of us...to hard, too nerve racking, too much! BUT we are both glad we did it and it does really look so much better.

It's just beautiful. My hat's off to anyone who would go up a ladder to the second story to do that much work. I will do it if I absolutely have to do it but it will take me days to work up the nerve.

You are both to be commended! Your home looks like something out of a storybook for children. Beautiful.

The stained logs and contrasting green board shutters just makes me feel good. Good work. Nice shingles too. Thanks for posting the pictures.

Yes! Chinking! Good job! It should be called necessary monotonous tedium! To everyone who thinks it is beautiful...thanks! It is a tiny house really...even though there is that second level...working up high IS what made it difficult. Constantly having to move the ladder is a pain. Parrotman, THAT is exactly what we were going for...grandma and grandpa's place in the country with dogs, cats, chickens, goats, fishing in the pond or paddleboating...not to mention the chance to play with baby animals!! I think we love it more than the kids! lol Sometimes you get what your heart fancies late in life, hmmm?
Uh, Doug, you might want to think about that question again...??!! NEVER is a very long time!! No! Jo, you may not see inside until we get a fork lift and remove all the clutter!! However, here are a couple of photos of the Annex (Mac and brother-in-law John took 1/4 of the barn and made a place for all of our kids to stay when they visit) It is almost always picked up and uncluttered because we do not live there!

You have a beautiful home! I love log homes, almost built one but DW and I decided we didn't need the stress.

Buckhuntr, I KNOW! I KNOW! You may pat yourselves on the back for being the smartest home owner in America! Love them, love to look at photos of them...never should have done it! Could not resist it. The kids love it and they all want to keep the place for summer visits, etc., after Mac and I have departed. I keep sending them photos of what their "summer vacations" will be like...LOL! Oh, well, we never should have had 5 kids either (my mother knew that!) Never should have bought that first goat either...Joan and Emily told us there was "nothing to it" (entirely their fault..).

I just put up pictures of the cabin "before" and "after" plus the condition of the logs, etc. if anyone is interested in seeing just how much work this was (!). www.scenicriversnubians.com is the website. It is on the BLOG page under "A Stain On Your House"
