A non-cycling doe yearling.

Sorry, I really could use some help on the proper vernacular. All of my "ready to breed" girls are bred. Except one. I have an yearling Nubian (born Feb 2012) that is yet to cycle. I even have doelings from this year that are driving the boys nuts. Why is she holding out? If I were to rank all my goats health on a scale from 1-10, she would be up there at the top. The reason I ask is that I kind of want to let the two bucks in with the herd for a few weeks so they can live the high life before the girls get double-wide again. She is my lone holdout. I want here with a particular buck, plus I want to know when she comes due. Does encouragement do any good?

By the way, I ate her brother for lunch in some chili. Coarse grind with garden chilies. It was awesome.

Sounds like she just has quiet or 'silent' heats. Not obvious to us, but I bet a buck would figure it out. You could do a couple things... take her to visit the buck every day and see if she eventually stands for him... or throw your buck of choice in with the doe herd and just put a marking harness on him. When she turns the shade of the crayon of choice, she probably went into heat and you should write the date on the calendar. And finally, you could synchronize her heats by using lutelyse or CIDRs, and see if she goes into a more obvious heat or at least get an exact bred date just by watching during a shortened time frame.

The alternatives are all pretty rare like true infertility that doesn't cause heat cycles or her being a hermie - I imagine you'd notice if she was a hermie, though. Here's hoping she's just a quiet prude.
