Sick Goat?

So, we have a 4 month old goat, and for the past 4 days, she's been laying down while the others are eating. We saw her eat yesterday for the first time, but she only ate for a few minutes and then stopped and laid back down.

Today, we couldn't find her, but then we finally found her laying in the brush. She's worse today than ever.

We tried bottle feeding her water, tried giving her food, grain, and yogurt, but nothing has helped.

Any ideas???

The first thing I'd do is get her body temperature. High or low, that will rule out a lot of things.

Do you have a vet you can call?
Goats can die very quickly. You need to act fast. It could be pneumonia which would require anti-biotics pronto.

Yes, temperature is 1st thing to try & help figure out what could be going on but a vet would be an excellent call at this time since she's been sick 4 days already.

Sorry that happened. Learn the lesson from this- as soon as you spot an animal looking "off" you need to investigate. It could just have a cold or upset stomach or it could be a major worm load, coccidia (sp?), mineral deficiency, poisoning, injury, infection, etc. Animals are extremely stoic for the most part and often don't look "sick" till they are at deaths door.

Here's a link to basic kid care. There are several preventative practices listed.

(Added after Doug caught my mistake.)
