Ending the sick goat saga...(w/pics!)

To say that September has flown by would be an understatement. Caring for little Ms. Sick Bertie has consumed the month. I feel like it's all I've done or thought about. Just before she got sick I was finally admitting it publicly that I really did like goats. Now I just downright love them. Berta has almost fully recovered. She is eating enough on her own I don't have to help her, but she isn't a pig like her sister (yet). As far as I can tell she is still blind, but I have faith that will come back. Here is her laid out after the vet visited...

I'm amazed by her will to live, and how well she has done. I'm extremely glad we didn't take the vets advice and put her down.

The litter sister to the doe we had go thru this had a bought after ours. I had rehomed her several months earlier. The family never notified me or asked questions when the trama came up...until they had nursed her for a week, didn't think she would get better, put her down THEN told me! I was heartsick & furious! I stil can't talk to them today...rrrrr...

Oh geez, that is terrible. I could understand why people would think its something impossible to recover from...even our vet said to put her down. It has helped to have the forum though, everyone is always so encouraging and full of been there done that survived it stories! Once I saw Berta was willing to fight to live, I knew I couldn't just give up on her!

Now she is "under your skin"! You will claw, kick, punch, wrestle, scream, yell, and anything else in a fight to keep her alive at this point. Nice job! I hope she regains her vision.
