Leashes!

You know how they tell you to use a lead rope, not a leash, for large animals, and not to wrap the end up the lead rope around your hand or arm?

Well, they know what they're talking about. Don't use leashes with goats unless they're small kids. I couldn't find my lead ropes (boys were playing with them and misplaced them), so used a leash to walk my BIG buck to the neighbors. He got shocked by an electric fence, freaked out, dragged me, and I got a concussion and am having serious neurological issues now, trouble walking. It wasn't worth the savings in time looking for the lead rope.....

OMG... I'm so sorry... Will keep the no leash thing in mind.. My daughter who is only 5 ft 1" is the one who usually walks/moves the bucks.. so far we've never had an issue, but after hearing of your accident.. I'll pass the warning on.. Hope the MRI doesn't show anything bad going on.. Hope you start feeling better soon

Wow, so sorry about your injury. Concussions an take a long time to get over. I have had two. Both really bad and still am suffering the consequences over 2 years after the last one.

Hopefully your MRI will show something that can be fixed and reduce the recovery time. Keep us posted.

You always fold the leash or rope over in your hand. Never put your hand through a leash or wrap around your hand with any animal.

I'm so sorry that happened. I'm a little confused though...what exactly was it about the leash that was the problem? Was your hand through the loop? Just trying to figure out what the difference changed.

Oh my. I really hope you get straightened out. Thank you for the reminder. A freaked-out buck from an electric fence can really pull and jerk.

My hand was through the loop, which you are never supposed to do, and I knew that I wasn't supposed to, but did it anyway. When the buck panicked and all heck broke loose, he dragged me around until the leash finally came off my hand. It happened so fast I could not let go voluntarily.

That happened to me once but luckily my injuries were not as bad as yours. I walk the boarding dogs at the vet clinic where I work. I took out these 2 labs...who are normally mellow. I had the leashes wrapped around my wrists, one on each wrist. We came out the door and my coworker was a ways off walking a dachshund. Both labs bolted for the little dog. Literally pulled me off my feet and I landed on my chest and they dragged me until the leashes came unwrapped from my wrists. Knocked the wind out of me, scraped up my knees and elbows and the leashes burned and bruised my wrists. One of the dogs got to the little dog and attacked as my coworker was picking him up to keep it away. The little dog ended up with a small bite and my coworker ended up with many bites to her arms and hands protecting the little dog. What a disaster! We learned many lessons that day.
