Frosted Mini Goats News

Hey, haven't been around for awhile, been busy. I had a great show season, here's the biggest results (You can see all my goats' full registered names and pedigrees on my website in my signature line.):

Syringa, Memorial Weekend:

MDGA show (minis):

Senior does
Blackberry (first freshening (freshened as yearling--now 2 years), milking through, 9.5 months fresh) 1x GCH (1st leg), 1x BIS, 1x RCH
Boots (first freshening yearling) 2x GCH (2 legs), 1x BIS
Jewel (has been sold) (first freshening yearling) 1x RCH

Jr Does
Checkers (grade mini alpine) 1x GCH (dry leg)
Blackie (Boots daughter) 1x GCH (dry leg), 2x BOB, 1x RCH, 1x BIS
Granny (Lulu daughter) 1x GCH (dry leg)
Awi (AI baby from Wapiti) 2x RCH
All the doelings that got their dry legs are sired by my CH buck, Memphis, who I am having collected this weekend if anybody is interested in an AI breeding to him. Or if you live close enough, he is available for driveway service.

Bucks (I only had 1 jr mini buck there)
Andy 1x Jr GCH

ADGA show:
Peachy 1x GCH (first leg), BOB over 4 CC does!
Dandy (Peachy duaghter) 1x GCH (dry leg)

Provo Sunhill Classic (first year for this show in Utah):

Blackberry (now 10 months fresh) 1x GCH (second leg)
Boots 1x RCH
Andy was Jr. GCH in both rings

Twin Falls Co. Fair:

Peachy 1x GCH (not enough Nigerians in milk for a leg)
Lulu 1x RCH
Dandy 1x Jr GCH
1st place dam and daughter, Peachy and Dandy
Twist (Twisted Sister-my Tempo doeling ) 1x Jr RCH (not enough alpines to get dry leg)

Utah State Fair:

Peachy 1x GCH (second leg), judge said she had the best udder of the Nigerians there!
Bambi (Fawn (sold) daughter from a very nice alpine buck) 1x GCH (dry leg)

So, half of my keeper kids have earned their dry legs this year, and 3 of my milkers only need one more leg to be permanent champions!! I couldn't be happier! This is only my 3rd year of showing goats, and the first year, I only went to the county fair with some Jr. does.

I have lots of great breedings planned for this year, including some polled and some AI breedings, see my website for breeding plans. I am taking reservations with no deposit this year, I just ask that you only make a reservation if serious. This year will be an evaluation year for me, so I should have a lot of the kids for sale. I am also planning to sell many of my milkers, as I don't really want to milk close to 20 does!

Oh, I also did LA this year, and of the goats I haven't sold, here are their scores:

Moose (alpine) VVEE 89, first freshening 2 year old
Wapiti (alpine) VEVE 90, second freshening 2 year old
Flora (alpine) VEEE 90, second freshening 3 year old, 12 months fresh (all categories V's or E's!!)
Peachy (Nigerian) ++EV 86, second freshening 2 year old (The appraiser doesn't like Nigerians, LOL)
Lulu (Nigerian) +VEA 82, 4th freshening 6 year old (she's just a pet, but milks great...might make top ten this year)

We are also on DHI testing with all the breeds we own, and you can see those results on the website as well.

Beautiful, beautiful goats! Nice website too....
AM longing for a nearby quality breeder such as yourself (what no one wants to drop a pair of mini dairy doelings off at my front door?! Just kidding...).....

That would be cool. Me and some other gals have formed a dairy goat club in this area. We aren't doing dues or anything, it's more of an information sharing thing than anything. We meet in various locations around the valley. It's for dairy goats, but some of the things pertain to all goats. Evelyn Simon (Simon boers) came to one of the meetings, and I'm not sure, but might come to the next one. We are having our next meeting in Oakley and going to talk about AI and have several does scheduled with CIDRs to breed as well, if you are interested. There will also be a potato bar and potluck, yum! It's on Sept 28 at 1 pm. If you are interested or want the address, send me an email or text to the contact info on my website.

CAjerseychick, thank you! Depending where you are, there are sometimes transport options. If you are on facebook, check out the groups called "small animal transport" and "West Coast small animal transport". There are probably others as well. I have heard of people airshipping 2 kids in one crate, and I think the cost is about the same as one, as low as $250 if you find the right airline.

Thanx, Frosted Minis, I did notice that for a dairy that was close to SF (but they dont have minis)-- I was thinking it was cause it was close to SFO(airport)?
For our first goats though I think we want to go get them, further down the line (when we actually understand breeding and lineage a little bit more) we may go that route from a Breeder-- just a pair of mini doelings today that we will probably go with (mutt minis-- Nigerian with about 1/4 Toggenburg)...

I didn't realize these were your first goats. It may be good to get them from a local breeder then, as long as they are willing to help. It is nice when there are breeders who will even come over if you need something. I have goat friends around me and we go to each other's houses to help with kidding, sometimes milk for each other, etc. It is nice to have a local network. I know of one breeder in N. California who has mini alpines and mini oberhasli. I can't remember if she has any others. Her name is Betty McCorkle, and she has a buck from my herd, Bandit. He is a yearling Blackberry son from Memphis.

We are in Nevada City (about an hour NE of Sacramento) ... Where is Betty? ( I did like the idea of mini Alpines as well d/t their "longer" lactation season?
Doelings we looked at today are from family pets that happen to be Toggenburg/nigerian crosses (I have no idea why they even have a Buck, as they seem very busy and mainly use the goats for brush, and lawn ornaments, but they are treated very well and kindly)...
We are also going out to see some miniNubians, but that farm (Slate Creek) is also a couple hours away- get on the wait list for a spring doeling I think...

She doesn't have a website, but here is her contact info from the MDGA members directory:
Rebel Winds
Betty McCorkle
7055 Springtime Trail
Oroville, CA 95966
rebelwinds@hughes.net
Mini-Oberhasli * Mini-Alpine
Alpine * Oberhasli

You may want to check there for more breeders around you. The website is: http://mdga.be/members%20directory/District%201.htm

Edited to add: It looks like there is a breeder on that list right in Nevada City, with mini Nubians.

I'm pretty sure that is where it came from. I got my first goats in Jackson Hole, 2 Nigerian dwarves (Lulu was one), and my coworker/friend said, "they're gonna be frosted mini goats!", and so it began. And they really were frosted mini goats sometimes-I would find them with frost on the outside edges of their coats!

I have a friend that has air shipped many kids before. She thinks it's actually easier on them than a long car ride. I've never done it yet so I"m just going by what she said.
