Next time I trim goat hooves

I'm going to wear my steel glove I use for processing. My left hand is chewed up! Just little knicks and cuts all over. But it's breeding season and everyone needs neatly trimmed hooves to stand upon! And evidently I need my yearly booster for tetanus. :-P

My little brush goat Ankhesenamun is the first to go into standing heat so she is first to go in with Mr. Kidd.

Altering my breeding schedule this year to have some winter kids because down here in the living south any possible advantage against parasites is one to take, IMO.

I cut the heck out of my left palm twice. It didn't bleed much but it sure hurt for several days.

Thankfully they are all little cuts, none too deep. I try and keep the clippers as sharp as possible so I am putting as little force behind them as I can. And I feel like I am really good at knowing when things are about to go wrong-- a tug or kick or hop... but it's still a work in progress. Maybe the January trim will go more smoothly. :-P

I always catch my knuckles with the rasp. Then I stabbed myself with the trimmer. Then I decided to always wear gloves!

It's always a gouge fest. I'll probably end up with a pair of trimmers in my jugular one day. I just did 27 on Sunday. It was a marathon. Everyone but the stinky boys got a nice trim. They will have to wait until they shower. I have some deep thigh bruises from horns, but no loss of blood this time.

I rarely have a mishap to my hand. I use a pair of clippers and a box cutter; and if the goat is one who doesn't like to have the hooves trimmed, I'll put on the glove that I use with my carving set....nothing cuts thru that!

After a few severe gouges, I now ALWAYS wear a leather glove on my Rt hand, the one that holds the foot!

I snip my hand because I'm trying to get that hard to get to place and my hand gets in the way.
