Can I stop with thiamine?

Berta is on day 9 of treatment for listeriosis/polio. Due to her original fever I figured it was probably listeriosis but have continued the thiamine along with the penicillin. I feel so bad giving her all these shots and wondered if I could either drop the thiamine or give it orally? Does anyone know?

Berta overcame her fever, and is back on the road to recovery. She had seemed weak, but it was stressing her too much too tube. So I have started making "green smoothies" for her. Leaves put in the blender and then spoon fed to her. She loves it, and we have already noticed her acting better.

Not yet. They aren't hurting her. When she is "on food"-- that is, eating food that requires a functioning rumen willfully on her own without inducement, then she will producing her own thiamine. Until then, she needs it from a needle or you will be right back at ground zero.

ETA: I know it is not fun, but she sounds like she is very close to that point. At least you have far fewer days remaining of constant care than what you have endured.

My doe came down with polio a week ago yesterday. When I spoke with my vet on Wednesday, she instructed me to continue the thiamine twice a day for 7 more days, and then once a day for 5 days after that. I've stopped IM shots and am giving them subQ now, however, because her muscles were taking a beating.

Well I will continue with her shots then. I will switch to subq though. I think that's the hardest part...the better she gets the more she protests the shots! Not that I blame her, I'm sure I'd hate it too. Thanks to both of you!
