It was a bloodbath

We drew blood on 15 goats today. I tried to use the kits from Bio Tracking. It took me a while to get it all together. No problem hitting the jugular. Problem was pushing the vial into place at the right time. I figured it out on the last several and things went fine. I figured out not to wait to see blood before pushing the vial up. To trust my aim and do it all at once. I will mail it all off tomorrow.

Went through a lot of wipes. My wife and kids was right there helping the whole time. They did great.

I always draw it into a syringe and then put into the vial

I had the kit so I used it. It will be easier next time. But I will never buy another kit. I'll use a syringes when these run out.

Good job!

I too, draw into a 3ml syringe. I use a 20ga 1" needle, too. Then I use a 3ml blood tube. Works great.

Great Job! I"m a chicken & have my vet come draw the blood! One day I'm going to try it on my own though!

It wasn't bad. It was very simple after I realized how to use the vials with the needle thingy. It would be much simpler with a syringe. I shaved the neck area. Swabbed with alcohol wipes and the last few took about a minute each with no blood spilled. The first one took 5 minutes and I had blood everywhere.

Thank you for sharing. I've been contemplating learning to do blood draws.

Sorry

How do you do this alone? I've no one to help me.

I just had the vet out and mine are all clear CAE and jones, they don't test CL unless its suspected, but I want to do that anyway.

Good luck. You will have to have a chute and tie the head. Even my sweetest girls don't like the shears and a needle.

SJS Farm I do my blood drawing alone. I put them on the milk stand so they can't walk away. Give them grain so they hold still. Run my thumb down the outside edge of the trachea where the Jugular is. Put firm pressure with my thumb and draw with the other hand. Not that hard.

You don't have to trim hair, after you have done it for a bit. Just makes it easier if you can see it better. I have drawn blood by myself from the milkstand . Just makes it easier if someone is holding them so they don't jerk the needle out when you have a half a cc.

The syringe was super easy. Did the new one by myself and I still shaved her. But then I held her against me, inserted syringe, drew blood, put in vial. Took about 30 seconds total.
