Angry So I had someone contact me their goat died.

6 months ago a woman bought two goats from me to start her herd. I recommended more but who am I to decide what is best. Well today I was contacted to let me know the doling I sold her died unexpectedly. She was 9 months old. She was kept with a buck. She insisted they were both healthy fat and doing fine. Only to come out to find the doe dead one day. She asked me if I had any more goats to replace her with as I had sold her a defective goat! Upon further questioning found out they had never seen the vet. Did not know what they were wormed with. Asked if the doe was pregnant. She didn't know.
Nope no more goats. Sorry lady better read up on goat health care. I sent them home with you with a full packet of info. Asked her if she read it. She said her husband threw it away they didn't need it.
This is the part I dislike about selling goats. Ignorance kills.

Yeah... uh any defects (well, not all, but anyway) after having a goat for 6 months are your own doing not the breeders. The cahones on some people...

You did all you could...gave her a healthy baby...gave her a packet of information to keep her healthy (and probably the willingness to talk her through any problems)...she didn't want to take care of her...the goat should just automatically be healthy. Sorry this happened...not your fault in the least!

Sounds like the cheese slipped way off that cracker.....If i just lost a goat. i would be in tears, crying, and i SURE as heck wouldn't call the breeder after 6 months of the goats being in her care....Goats nor does any other animal just drop dead....calling right away asking for a "replacement" is down right insulting. but even a Quick Q&A with that lady just sounds way off when saying "i dont know" yet "i know everything about goats." How dare her.

I think 3 of my 25ish goats have ever seen a vet, just as an fyi... But I know what health is and isn't.

9 months old, living with buck... Unless she was 'defective' (doubt it), she WAS pregnant. Chances are the past 24-48 hrs the goat WAS showing some symptoms but the person did not pick up on them. Unless it was a truely freak accident... in which case, it wasn't your fault either.

Where do these people come from? I find people like this with rabbits, too! Thank goodness for the 'sane' friends I've made, or I'd be done with this. LOL!

Thank you for the support everyone. I am sad for the goat. I really think the doe was pregnant and probably died due to a stuck baby. She was a small little thing. She was a twin her brother is in my buck pen and he is still small. I can't imagine her having grown much. For certain she can't weigh more than 40-45 lbs. I asked her why she was in with the buck. She said she thought they would be ok. They were so small. Uggg then she asked if her other goat was going to die too. Umm how the heck should I know??? It is your responsibility to know your animals not mine. Once they leave my care they are 100% yours!

If I suspect anything funky going on the first thing I do is start a log on that goat what its temp is etc. I gather a sample of poop and get it floated to see if there are any squatters living in my goat. While waiting for the results of that I start a process of elimination on things that could be wrong. Usually I can figure it out. Most of the time it is something simple and very fixable if caught early enough.
