Mini-Nubians Registry?

I'm interested in getting a goat and think the mini-nubians might suit.

I've been offered a nubian doe in trade for some ducks I have. She is not registered. If I bred her to a registered Nigerian the resulting offspring would be a mini-nubian-but the offspring wouldn't be registerable anywhere would it?

Is it worthwhile starting with registered stock? I doubt I'll show but would like to have decent stock. And which registry is considered "the mini-nubian" registry-I see several out there.

Thanks

It would be registerable as a GRADE with MDGA and I think, TMGR. I wouldn't trade for an unknown animal. I would buy from reputable people and ask about CAE, CL, and G6S before bringin anything home.
nehimama and Backfourty,MI. like this.

Thanks for the info. Is being registered as a Grade MDGA worth anything? I'll definitely do health checks before anything comes home, I was just wondering how important being registered should be to me. It turns out I don't think much of this particular goat that spurred the question, but I've seen others that look really nice that aren't registered that I've also turned down due to lack of papers. I'm wondering if I should be making that a deal breaker or not.

MDGA - grade
TMGR - last time I asked, was told it would be an NOA=F0 and it would have to be bred to a F1 (both parents registered) to advance or the offspring would always stay NOA=F0 http://www.tmgronline.org/noa.html

Without papers, you have NO IDEA what you are getting. In my world, it costs just as much to feed papered goats as it does non-papered. You can get more for them. And in making Minis, if they aren't papered, most just see them as "mutts". Do your research and get the best you can afford.

On the "grade" issue, you can breed up to experimental and purebred...but it takes 6 generations to get out of "grade". That's a lot of time and feed. Go with better stock. You'll be happy you did.

I know a lady that says she wants Minis but she just buys and sells animals. She started with grades and now she is buying and selling registered goats. Nothing stays long. She breeds them, doesn't milk, sells (or kills through ignorance) the kids and still has nothing in her own herd name. This saddens me. Goats are wonderful creatures that want a home, but make sure you are the "right" fit before you invest. They are hard to let go of. Research, research, research.

ETA: AND I FORGOT...ask about G6S!

On a yahoo list I was reading yesterday (about minis) a lady said she tested 14 goats and only TWO were G6S NORMAL!!! Start with the right stock. Mine are G6S normal, Yarrow's are G6S Normal...ask the questions, it makes you look smarter too!
