2 of 4 bucklings undescended

Out of our first crop of 8 kids, we had four bucklings, four doelings. Not bad.

Out of the four bucklings, two had 1 or more testicles that did not descend. Not good.

They're actually all going to freezer camp, so it's not a crisis, but I do wonder, is this more or less common with male goats? One I can understand, but two?

In like 11 years of raising goats, I had my first cryptorchid this year. It is NOT common. Incidentally, mine was the result of breeding a daughter back to her father (boer). I also have bite issues on the twin boys. The solid red has a weirdly folded ear - it folds oddly at the BASE of the ear, which I've never seen. I'm hoping the AI takes this year on my bucks' daughters. None of the non-inbred kids had any issues whatsoever.

Not common and I would look closely at those breedings again. In 13 years of goat breeding(some years with over 100 bucklings born), I have only had three bucklings with undescended testicles. Were these kids all sired by the same buck?

same with us.. after all the years an all the kids born.. we've only ever had one Monorchid (one down, one up).. he was a itty bitty after thought out of a set of quads.. he was MUCH smaller then the others.. (it was a breeding we had done before and did again after with no other issues, except in the teeny guy).. I think he might have had other issues going on too.. we culled him.. in his case, it wasn't hereditary.. but I know (at least in dogs) it is a hereditary fault.

Interesting - yes, some Kinder line breeding involved, though not intentional, it's just that this is the buck which was available - his grandfather was the same as the doe's father.

As mentioned, its not a critical matter. The buck has been butchered and the bucklings will also go to freezer camp come December. We are however, retaining one buckling as hopeful herd sire who is of mixed breed (not all Kinder) and who appears very much intact - but he too has the same sire as the "un-descendents"

Thanks for the info. 'Twill be interesting to see what comes next Spring.
