Safeguard and lactation??

I've got a bottle of Safeguard for use in kids for tapeworms. I noticed this morning that it says not to use it in lactating does, as it hasn't been tested in goats for milk withdrawal.

It's a new-ish bottle. The expiration date is 2015.

General accepted use has been that Safeguard is OK for use in lactating does without withdrawal.

It appears that the company that manufactures it is opposed to this use.

Maybe the company puts that on the label about milk withdrawl so they don't have to be liable if someone drinks the milk & becomes sick. probably just a precaution that a lot of companies just do.

My bottle says the same thing & it's exp. date is next year.

My old bottle from 5yrs says the same thing. I just figured either it's not tested or they had a reason not to want us to drink the milk while using it.

I'm sure it hasn't been tested. That's what happens due to the lack of popularity of goat milk from folks who don't know better. No funds for testing.

Safeguard is even pretty safe for WORMS.

Yes, it is cleared for goats but not lactating goats. The dairy goat industry is not serious enough to warrant the enormous funds it would take to determine milk withdrawal for goats. That is the reason it's not cleared - is that they haven't determined how long to withold milk for human consumption.

For dairy cattle, there is not a withdrawal time. That means it is probably not soluble or shed into bodily fluids to any discernable degree.

Its not studied so they put that on there due to that, if I have any concerns about withdrawl I look at the cow stuff as its all the same thing, thats why the bottle is so impractical to buy vrs a horse tube, or in my case we just get the cattle tube if tapeworms become an issue, its all 10%
