Lets treat Pneumonia

Ok. The little guy isn't getting better.(well getting better real slowly would be more accurate) This is at least day 4 of a fever over 104. He is congested. I have been giving 2cc of LA 200 daily in 1cc doses morning and night. I gave two doses of red seal and two doses of B Complex plus two and three days ago. One each day. I have something I thought was for Pneumonia when I bought it. It is Pasteurella Multocida Bacterin. Now I don't know what the heck it is for. Lets try to use what I have for tonight. I have been tubing equal amounts of resorb and goat milk morning and night. I have been giving 2cc's of Childrens Tylenol for colds, fever, etc. morning and night. How do I use the redseal and how long do I use it? Same question for B Complex. He does have more energy and is a little better. I just don't want to lose him or my wife and kids will bawl for days. Not to mention, I get pretty attached. I hope threads like this can help everyone who has questions

Also, after you say what you would do today with the things I have on hand. What would you do tomorrow? Wait? Start a different antibiotic? What?

The best suggestion I can give is to search the goat forum for pneumonia and look at the results. I hope the little guy pulls through!

http://fiascofarm.com/goats/medicati...xytetracycline

Here's a list of goat medications Doug & what the dosages are for, also what they are normally used for.

A vet RX antibiotic would be best, my 1st choice from the vet is Nuflor but if you can't get a RX then Penicillin is better for Pneumonia than LA 200.

At the end of his antibiotics he'll also need some Prbios paste to help get the good bacteria back in his rumens that the antibiotics kill off too.

Hope the little guy is better soon!

The tylenol isnt a very good idea.
the reason the LA 200 isnt working is because its not effective against it, may subdue it for a day but its not going to cure it. You need Naxcel or Nuflor that is the ONLY thing thats going to kick this.
The only human medicine you can use is asprin or vicks vapor rub, the tylenol itself can cause high fever due to liver failure

Well crap, I read to use the tylenol on another thread. Is Nuflor vet only?

Also for some reason I keep thinking you should NOT give a goat Tylenol or Motrin. If you have to give an OTC pain med I would use aspirin.
I can't find the thread or where I read it & it's been a Long time. Hopefully someone else will jump in here that remembers for sure.

I think I'd hold off on the RedCell right now too. I would stick to the Antibiotic & Vit. B Complex.

Cannon Farms & I were typing at the same time. Glad she remembered about the Tylenol & Motrin.

Yes, Nuflor is RX & Yes, that is a vaccine.

I don't think any over the counter Antibiotic is going to help much.. you really need Nuflor ***AND*** Banamine (his lungs will be building scar tissue.. the banamine will take down his fever and reduce the chance of scarring).. some aspirin might help with his fever tonight.. but it won't help the cause...

I would doubt that the amoxicillin will do a thing (other then upset his stomach).. esp in tablet form.. I think you are hitting the point of Rx drugs or loosing him.. sorry

Im just trying to give him something tonight. Tomorrow is work and he wont get anything until I can get a prescription and I hope I wont have any hassle getting one. I may have to take him to the vet to get it. Im going to call at 8:15 in the morning when they open. Hes actually stronger today and running from me more because he don't like all the shots hes had or all the tubing ive done or any of it. He runs to my wife and tries to hide from me. I think that's encouraging.

And do I get the banamine from the vet too and whats the dosage for both because no vet around here knows the dosages for goats. The only one that deals with large animals told me they don't deal with enough goats and get most of their information off the internet rather than experience.

Get the banamine and nuflor from the vet, unless there's a goatie person nearby to you who will sell you a couple of doses of nuflor. It is rather spendy. Last time we got some, it was $75 for a bottle.

Some vets will sell it to you more readily than others.

Dosage for nuflor: 6cc/100 lbs (you'll have to do the math for your little feller)

Check out this thread:
Its that time of the year.....

Last time I needed Nuflor my vet sold it to me already in the syringes ready to give. Much cheaper that way if they'll do it.

Here's what I'm thinking.
3/4 cc Nuflor.
1/2 cc of banamine.
Question. Do I give both for 5 days?
Do I give them both sq?
