Sick Nubian Nanny

Hey everyone,

I have a Nubian nanny that is EXTREMELY skinny. We got her bred and she was in terrible shape then. It was one of those try and save her kind of deals. Anyway, she had twins about 2 months ago and did not feel well at all. We had to force her to take her babies by holding her and such. We wormed her a few days after her babies were born and then again. She started to do much better. 2 weeks ago my husband put her in the front yard with her babies. She has fresh grass and hay that she gets twice a day.
We had gone out of town this last weekend and when I got home and was doing my general overlook I found that one of her babies had died and she is very gant....
I am terribly worried and not really sure what to do... I gave her 2 cc of b complex this morning because she was having trouble standing up as well as 10 cc of lamb and kid paste. She has diarrhea and a goopy eye.... If you have any ideas please please help.... When we left she was pretty happy and not gant at all, still skinny of course but I know that just takes time.... She has a mineral block that we put in tonight (husband forgot to put in the front yard when he moved them) that she has been eating for the last 20 minutes or so but she has only been without it since we moved her...... I am sorry for the long post but I am trying to include as much information as possible because I just don't know what is wrong or what to do to help her...

I am sorry I dont have time to answer much but you really need to get a fecal done on her. You need to include the wormer you used and dose in the information. Also temp. Pull the kid and bottle raise it, she cant maintain herself right now and doesnt need to be taking anything away from herself to feed a kid its bad for both of them use whole cow milk to feed the kid if you dont have real milk. Fecal is extreamly important right now but if you cant do it you will spend more money on guessing if you got the right wormer than knowing but you can start with a mega dose of Pyrentel (we use 5x horse dose) every three days for 9 days. Shes probably over ran with infection so she really dose need to see a vet so you can get the right antibiotic OTC stuff is really became redundant. Please list color of her eyelid and if possible a picture.

Your doe, it's not a "nanny", is probably over run with worms compounded with other poor nutrition issues. Best to get to a vet if you can.

Ditto on the trip to the vet. If he gives you Safeguard dewormer, it probably won't work on anything except tapeworms.

Suspect coccidia (not a worm, but a protozoa), worms, and other opportunistic infections.

Did you use a coccidia prevention protocol for the kids?

Here's a starting reference for basic care:
