Question FF leaking milk after kidding end of May???

My Toggenburg kidded around May 24th, I milk her 2x per day like clock work 6 am & 6pm. Last night after getting her milk all weighed and put away (she gave less than her usual 2.75lbs, last night it was 2.52) I went back out to clean up and check in on everyone...When cleaning, I noticed a bit of milk at the edge of her bed...I lifted the bedding and there was a HUGE puddle of milk....

Today, around mid-day, we were out at the goat barn working on a new front porch for the girls, and she laid down...and I noticed a little 'Squirt' ....it was quick...and I just figured the pressure from her laying down squeezed her teat just right and it was no big deal....well...Tonight when I went out to milk, there were TWO puddles...one little one, and one bigger one....

I cleaned them up...milked her out...and she only gave 2.39lbs of milk tonight...

She has been very consistent, averaging 2.75lbs per milking....

Not sure if it's important, but she has one side of her udder that is larger than the other, and it was the smaller side that squirted....That side has ALWAYS been much easier to milk...

Should I be worried?? Or should I just start milking her mid-day?

I'm not concerned with losing the milk...just concerned that she is OK

Anyone ??

This morning, there was a little milk on the floor, but she gave 2.62lbs...

I've read that it's possible for an orifice to be "Blown" not sure what that means or if you can do anything about it...I would prefer not to have to dry her off..

ANYONE?

Are you hand milking her? Using a post milking teat dip?

Yes to Both....

I'm using this dip...

I do have a new can of Fight-Bac, I could try that post milking instead of the dip...

I was mainly wondering if you were using a syringe or a non-pulsating type milker that may have been damaging her teat sphincters. The teat dip question was just to help make sure no bacteria gets in there while the sphincters are loose. Some are better than others at providing a barrier from bacteria.

Sounds like she's just got loose sphincters, which can really be a problem as far as allowing bacteria to get in there (plus, you're loosing milk). Not sure if something could be causing it or if it's just her genetics. Maybe someone else can chime in.

Thanks for the reply....

She has always had one side that seemed easier to get going than the other...but this leaking is all new...

I'll try and get out there earlier this evening and see if I can head it off at the pass!
& I'll give the Fight-Bac a shot~

I had a doe that had very loose orifices at one time. Whatever side she laid on would have milk gone from it. At first I thought she was self sucking.

When I did a milk test one time I used Dr Naylors stop leak on her because she would leak several pounds out.

It's possible the orifice is damaged but more possible she just has loose orifices.

I have a nubian that leaked on one side when she was a 2 yo, she has not leaked any in the last two kidding seasons tho, Maybe a loose orifice that mended itself during the off-season?........I would be careful of possible mastitis while she is leaking

Thanks...& Yes...I will be very careful...& I will keep my fingers crossed that it corrects itself ...b/c as goaties go...she's AWESOME...and I would hate to have to get rid of her...she's got the sweetest temperament, and her milk is REALLY great~~

I've gone out and checked her 2x since her morning milking and haven't seen signs of leakage....I'll likely try and go out a bit earlier to milk her this evening to see how it's going

Any HOO.......THANKS FOR THE REPLY ~!

Perhaps she was just coming in to peak lactation and is adjusting to the increase in capacity needed to store that much milk for that timeframe?

Hrmmmm...Dunno....This morning and this evening there were no puddles...so you may be on to something Although, she only gave a total of 5.34lbs today, so that is kind of on the low side for her....but ....I'm just happy thatI didn't find any puddles!!
