Update on our off tasting milk issue & ? on bermuda
It's either the bermuda grass hay or something growing in the pasture.
We sequestered 2 of our milkers and they've had nothing but alfalfa. The rest were swapped (slowly) to a prairie grass hay (it was cheaper and makes me itch less!!) but kept on pasture. I'll milk out the pasture mama's tomorrow and see...
The alfalfa ladies however -- have better tasting milk!!
Think it could be that simple as eliminating the bermuda hay? What else is growing in pastures right now that might make milk taste wonky? Up until Sun we were in another dry spell and the front pasture was getting pretty slim so they may have been eating something they wouldn't normally have touched & eating more hay than normal. Moving to new greener pastures here shortly but was trying to keep our variables to a minimum.
We decided to dry mama goat up and give her (us? lol) a break, she's been in milk for about a yr straight.
Thoughts?
