Lame doe with pics....graphic hoof pics.

My nubian has been lame off and on since I got her in april. She did the same thing with the previous owner also. She treated it like hoof scald and used koppertox. But now she was so lame and I was able to find this. Not sure what it is or what caused it. I have been treating her as hoof scald. But im thinking its not.

Do goats get thrush? Could it possibly be that? Have you tried an anti-fungal cream such as neosporin on it? Or, if you want to go the homeopathic way, is there anyway you can get raw honey and drizzle a bit on it every day? Honey has a great anti-bacterial and microbial to it, great for wounds and healing. If not, a call to your large animal vet may be needed to figure out what it is.

Oh yea, you do know that koppertox stings like all get out? There is a new stuff we use for our horses, No Thrush, it is a powder, works so much better and you can use for a multitude of things. Do a google on it...

I have been using wonder dust and naylors hoof and heal. Wonder if I should use blue kote and give her a shot of la 200? Or penicillin?

Blu-Kote would be my first recommendation; it's great stuff!

actually if you use MTG on this it will go away within a few days. LA200 isnt going to do anything but sting like heck.
Sorry dont have time to explain right now but will later

I had something that looked like that a few months ago with one of my does. I used some Colloidal Silver on a cotton pad, placed it directly on the spot and then wrapped it all in vetrap to keep it clean and the pad in place. Doing this ever 3 days for about a week worked great!

this is a combination of mites and a fungus that anitbotics are not going to do much for. MTG will kill the fungus and the mites and help heal the wound. They get this from damp grass or much, its called scratches in horses. http://www.smartpakequine.com/content/scratches-horse google for images. You should clean debris if possible but I love MTG for the fact it will work regardless. Blue coat and wound coat have their place but they will form a seal and trap infection/mites and fungus defeating the purpose. Antibotics can cause fungus to get worse (think yeast). My two cents spend it at will

Poor girl! I hope one of these suggestions helps her soon. And you too! It sure is upsetting to see our animals having trouble. Our neighbor's Kiko buck had something that looked like that on a hind foot. He'd tried several things but every rain he'd start limping again. We sent him off with what we had left of our tube of Nu-Stock a few months ago.
It's been raining for weeks here off and on. But when we asked how things were, he said the buck hasn't limped since he poured it on. Just a thought if you happen to see it at the store.
Good luck!

Can goats founder? With her lameness and all the rain we've had making the grass rich, if she were a horse, I would say she foundered

Youch, that does look painful. Excuse my ignorance, but what is MTG? I'm only half awake this morning. Think it would be good to have on hand, not that we usually have that much wet grass here, but you never know!

I respectfully disagree on the founder based on the pictures I would have to see one of the front and side while the foot is down.
MTG is Main and Tail grower, its sulfur and oil base pretty much kill any mite or fungus plus help the hair grow back quickly, word of caution though its oil base is like putting baby oil and laying out in the sun for us so keep applied area out of direct sunlight for extended hours.

Since you can put on a dry animal do you apply with spray bottle?

As far as hoof issue was going to suggest dousing with the iodine, I have on hand the iodine with pain reliever and have used it for multiple purposes with good results.

if you are referring to MTG I just use latex gloves as it stinks and a little dab goes a long way, if its something you cant or dont want to touch the top of the bottle is or used to be a flip top so you can just squirt it on, but i prefer to rub it in good. The smell is hard to get off your hands so I do recommend using gloves, Works on regrowing hair for humans too
