possibly mastitis

my doe had some clumps at the milking this am, no temp, eating like normal, minor decrease in mik, no blood, no lumps on udder. Is this the start of mastitis? How can I treat this? Can we still use her milk? Thanks in advance - Thea

1. She may simply have stepped on her teat or gotten overheated.

2. Milk out every couple of hours for two days.

3. Give her 1000 mg of chewable Vitamin C two or three times a day.

4. If there are still clumps, look at the 'sticky' at the top of the main goat page and follow the instructions on taking a sample and shipping it to LSU's mastitis clinic.

If you see no more lumps, keep the milk. If you don't, then *I* wouldn't worry. It's up to you, as you know your goats and their norms.

I have a MiniMancha who made lumps for a couple of days right after she freshened, and I think it was just old dry milk from the last freshening.

REAAAAALLY keep an eye on her. If it's not better by Sunday night, take a sample, freeze it, and ship it Monday.

(Why do these things always happen on Friday??)
