Doeling Slinging Cud - Ideas?

Has anyone ever had a goat kid throw cud one night, and be completely fine the next morning? This is the second year I've had this happen - the kid acts like it's choking and throws cud for hours, and then acts like nothing ever happened by the next morning. The one this happened to last year is now my friend's herd sire and is doing great. This year it's one of my 3-month-old doelings. There's absolutely nothing that could be poisoning the kids, and I didn't see a thing when I checked her mouth and throat last night. When I went to milk this morning, she was browsing, and her face was completely clean of any cud.

UPDATE: She's been fine ALL DAY - browsing, eating hay, nursing - but now she's slinging cud again. None of the other 5 kids (all born the same day) are sick, and all of my adults are fine. Any idea what could be causing this?

I don't know Trish...it sounds like she is choking on something. Very strange. I wish I could help!

Cud as in foam? They can suck pellets into their lungs. I had a lamb do that a few weeks ago, he slung foam for about 30 minutes and the next thing I know, he is dead. When this resolves itself, I would have a chat with your vet.

She's better again! She was eating hay when I went out to milk tonight, and then joined the rest of the herd at the hanging feeder to eat BOSS and Chaffhaye. I'm wondering if she's not just overfilling herself and/or doesn't quite know what to do with her cud yet. My line of thinking is that she'll either live or die...I sure don't need a weak link in my herd, but why does it always have to be the favorite? <sigh>

This is the little turd that's giving me a headache (the one in the front with little gopher ears). This was taken when she was just a few days old; she's about 3x that size now. Her name is Mystique, but we call her Misty.

75% LaMancha/25% Boer. She's adorable and one of our favorites, thanks

She's actually one of triplets (her sister is the black one in the photo), though she and her brother were kidnapped (literally!) by my Nubian doe, who then had two of her own (one of them being the little Nubian-looking doe in the photo). The black doeling is now at least twice the size of the others because she has her momma all to herself, while the other 2 are having to share milk from their adoptive mom with 2 others. LOL
