well.. that sucked!

I know a lot of you will remember when Ruthie had the tenny, tiny little spotted doeling we named sweet tea.. (born april 7th).. she had done really well (growing.. slowly).. until yesterday.. she was just a little off.. gave her some b1/banamine & baking soda.. she took her night bottle.. the bottle this morning and most of the dinner bottle) bedtime bottle saw her not hungry.. still on her feet.. alert.. but something really wrong.. that was 2 hours ago.. a few minutes ago.. we heard her yell out (so glad my kid barn is so close to the house).. ran out.. she was standing with the others..told Jess to go get more banamine.. within seconds she began to seize.. yelled for the gun instead.. it was obvious that she was dying.. (saw no point in letting her suffer).. so I did what I've come to hate about farm life.. I did the right thing... good bye little Sweet Tea

Aww....it's those that we tend so closely that earn places in our hearts...
makes losing them that much harder.

thank you all so much for the kind words... It just never gets any easier (I can't even GIRL out and have the hubby do it..he's an over the road trucker and gone most of the time) Before moving to the farm I had never shot anything.. never even held a gun.. got the 22 for coons ect... very first thing I had to shoot was one of the barn cats.. he had gotten hit by a car and I found him down and dying in the yard... then it was a newborn goat.. over the years it's just become another tool here on the farm...sure my city friends and family never expected ME to become the executioner ... (in cases like Sunny, when she was bleeding out and I had to c-section her.. I will still whimp and call the neighbor if he's home)..
again, thank you all.. Sweet Tea would have been a lovely addition to my herd (will repeat the breeding this fall and see if we can get another spotted girl)

On no, Susie I am so sorry . You are a much stronger woman than me, I don't think I could have thought that fast on my feet or had the strength to do it. ((((((hugs))))) Sweet Tea was such a special girl and I am thankful she had such a good life at your place. I had something sort of like this happen to me a few years back and that was HARD hard hard for me to do.

In my case he was a rather useless wether but I worked daily with him until his seizures just got too bad and I made the choice to have him put down at 8wks. Hardest dang thing I think I ever did but I know it was the right thing to do for him (I bawled like a baby the whole time at the vet's office).
