LGD feeding question

For those of you who feed your LGDs primarily regular dog food, how do you keeps the goats from eating it. I can't think of any kind of style or creep gate that would let an LGD in and keep a goat out.

I feed the lgd a certain time each day. This way the dog is generally there to keep the goats from eating it. If he isn't there, I call him to make sure he can protect his food from the goats. I only feed what he is going to clean up at a feeding. It helps to feed the goats their grain at the same time.

My goats what nothing to do with her food. I feed her a little meat on top so maybe they smell the meat and that's why they don't want it?

I've seen others use a 'jump box', basically a fenced off area with a hole that the dogs can jump thru, but the goats can't figure out. The hole is big enough for the dog (like 9x9" to 12x12" depending on how big the dog is) and is placed a foot and a half or so off the ground. The thought is that the goat can't figure out how to get their front legs in the hole, so they don't go thru.

But my goats don't bother the dog food here either. Now, if I could just keep the dogs out of the goat feed....(I know they eat it, I find corn poopies!)

I will be raising meat goats. I doubt if I will be feeding them any grain except in some special cases. Goats do have the reputation for eating almost anything, though.

I can see that there might be a time when we would be away a day or two and would need to leave extra feed out for the dogs, pasture and/or hay will be available to the goats as well as water for all. Between blue jays and coons around here, they can pick a dog bowl clean pretty quickly. I hope the LGD's won't be tolerating the coons....which left me goats to worry about. I am also not so sure meat oil/fat would be good for goats... it can be dangerous for some animals, for instance rabbits.

The dogs will usually keep the goats from eating it. LGDs tend to be territorial, especially about their food. The usual problem I have heard from people has to do with the dog nipping the goat, to tell it to stay away.
If that is not an issue, then just let the dog out of the goat pen to feed him. Then put him back in with them.

I feed mine by the shed, I've chased the horses and sheep off with a long whip [the noise, not hitting them] and they now know they better not or I'll hassle them down the mountain. The dog also protects her food now, she'll snap and growl to tell them to back off. Usually the pony and chickens need that, sheep and mare know better, they must be a bit smarter. =p

If you cant train them, make a small kennel to feed them in or a room with a door only the dogs can get in and out of.

We use a jump box as well. The goats love dog food

My goats will even bust open new bags of dog food if they get into the barn where food is kept. The dog is very good about keeping the goats away from the food, however if there is more food out than my dog consumes in a single sitting then it would be an issue.
