We are in south central Mo (near Steelville, Salem) and have been waiting all day for this thing! We even changed plans and did not travel today as we had planned some time ago. Ever since the weather people got the bright idea to widen the area of warnings, it is crazy! They cover so much territory that it is impossible to tell when a storm might really be near you or 50 miles away! I guess that way they can cover their
axxxs by saying, "We warned everybody!"
Anyway, thanks for letting us know that it is finally here!

We had a big one come through this morning at 9 am. Three or four inches of rain. All the rivers and creeks are flooding. I think there is around 7 inches of rain between the two storms.

This is the second, but there is horizontal line of storms crossing two states moving south. It doesn't last long but it was a duzy here.

Our quail pens flooded, even though we have a drain.

I am not going to complain, though, after going through horrible drought last year.

Y'all stay safe and dry.

We're all okay here. . . . so far. Now, if we could just hold off on some o' this rain 'til July/August, I'd be one happy Goat Lady!

South Central here.

Overnight, we had a noisy strobe light show with lots of wind. The damage is minimal - except to my sleep. That was wrecked.

Got about 4 1/2" of rain. Even though we cleaned the goat shed yesterday, it was a sodden, mucky mess this morning.

At least it SMELLED a lot better!

Looking good here !! We got 3 inches or more, but we needed the rain. Boomed around but no damage around my place.

We got 3.8 inches overnight here.
Not to mention the 3 inches we got the day before that.
The littlest turkey got piled on, so that was a loss.

One thing that is going to make my goats super HAPPY though?
A top-heavy old apple tree has fallen over right next to the goat pen.
Its roots are still mostly in the ground so I will be able to cut fresh browse for a good long while.
It didnt even fall on the fence, amazingly.

Things on the ridge seem to be drying out pretty well, and the sun is sort of shining. Huzzah!

Still, it's pretty mucky out there. And the road....!!! Douglas County is really poor at road maintenance, and it totally shows on our road. All the rock has been piled alongside the road, so there's nothing but mucky clay and potholes in the road itself.

You'd think they'd find out how to do the road correctly, rather than make it worse every time they bring a piece of heavy equipment up here...

In the poorer Missouri counties, they haven't got money for gravel for the "out-back" roads, so they just keep grading the dirt and hope that the clay will wash away and leave the gravel that is mixed in the soil. It works fine in the places the soil is really gravelly, but if the soil has a lot of dirt, the roads keep getting lower and soon become more drainage ditches than roads.

Apparently, you have better soil than many of us

Funny how a lot of other "out-back" roads here in Douglas County look just fine... I guess it depends on where you live. Or on where who lives.

Or something.

They tried to tell us that Douglas is the poorest county in the state. Wrong! The poorest county is Worth - and THEIR back roads look fine.

The secret is: run for County Road Commissioner..
There is only enough money for some of the county roads, so you fix yours and your neighbors during your term. Then next term the person with the next worst county road runs.. Welcome to Ozark politics.

EXACTLY!! I served on our township Road Board for a few years. One old adage is still true: "The squeaky wheel gets the grease".

From what I can tell, competition from "outsiders" is frowned upon. Would love to try your method, but don't know how effective it would be.
