Doe year or buck year?

So far this kidding season have you had a doe year or a buck year?

I've definitely been having a doe year. With 5 of 8 does having kidded, my current kid count stands at 7 does, 4 bucks. Of course things could still even out since I have three more does due to kid, but so far does prevail...

7 doelings/5 bucklings total

My Boer buck sired 6 doelings/3 bucklings
My Saanen buck sired 1 doeling/2 bucklings

This is the first year I've bred these bucks so I really can't attribute anything to genetics vs. environment. But I'm thankful, last years breedings produced 6 bucklings and only 1 doeling!

Exactly 50:50 here. 4 does kidded, each with a buckling and a doeling. I can't complain about that.

I'd have to look at my list and count, but off the top of my head it was something like 6 bucklings out of 24 kids, not good for selling market wethers, but great for building our herd. We used 4 new bucks this year so I can't really say what the factors were.

I have never in my life been blessed with a doe year. I am jealous of all of you with the doelings.

And on the other end of the spectrum, we've had a buck year with our microscopic numbers. Two does, five kids, 4 bucks.
