Here we go again...

Bless my DH's boss, he is so kind, but also a know it all. While he has never raised goats, and has admitted to me ONCE that he knows nothing about them, he and I had another one of those conversations today.

The guys sell bulk seed, and I need something to reseed the old horse pasture. I was asking DH if they could me just a pound or 2 of alfalfa to throw in the mix. His boss starts asking me all sorts of questions about my planting plans-you know, those questions that scream "I'm only asking you this because I think you're an idiot" kind of questions.

To top it off, he says "Well, the problem is (that's always his catch phrase), if you feed any amount of alfalfa to the goats, they are going to bloat..."

Can I pull my hair out yet? I won't bore you with the details of my response and educational piece to him. The problem is...I have to be nice because DH works for him and he can be very generous with our store discount. (now where's that "pulling my hair out" sticky thing when I need it?)

EEK! That's hard to deal with. I would probably just go with a canned "Thanks for your input" response. It's hard being civil when someone is being a condescending know-it-all-jerk-face.

But.... did you get your alfalfa seed?

Michelle, I'd add in red clover vs. alfalfa. Red clover is more suited for your climate and it's hardy as all get out for grazing. Alfalfa dies off fairly easy in a pasture setting.

BTW, really hate people like that.

Thanks for the idea Jenny.
I found out that he can get me alfalfa seed at the local coop, but I get the same discount there that he does, so I don't know he thinks I should pay him more just to pick it up for me when I shop there anyway.

When I was doing my research to get my kids a couple of months ago, I had VETERINARIAN (supposedly one who specialized in small ruminants) tell me goats can NEVER have alfalfa because it causes urinary stones and GI issues......wanna bet how quickly I ended that conversation?
