Salma suddenly had white eye membranes when I checked on Sunday (I checked before bringing the buck and she was all good) so I wormed her and she had a terrible tantrum - thrashed and spat most of it out onto my shirt. So I dosed her again, repeat performance, and worried all night that she'd either got a half or a double dose. She acted like I was the anti-Christ, seemed off and wouldnt eat her grain that evening. She was fine by morning, hay all gone and bowl of grain scoffed.
She is 22 days bred and I used oxfendazole which is a white wormer and the vet said still works in our area. The label says 'safe for pregnant animals', but I've also read that it can cause abortion in early pregnancy for sheep.
The last 2 days there has been a small blob of clear discharge on her vulva, I dont know if this is normal during early pregnancy? She hasn't come back in heat, and the buck is still here, but I'm so new to the breeding game I have no idea if that means she lost it. No sign of blood or anything.
Do you think she is ok? Or does this mean she has lost her early pregnancy?
Help me Goat Mamas!
(Hmmm...only 22 days in and I am tearing out my hair....with Salma AND a first freshener for my second goat birthing season, I will no doubt spend the actual due dates in a padded cell banging my head on the wall while muttering about single bucklings and birthing kits...)
