A new goat for me!

A new goat for me! - Goats

And that is the best pic I have of her. Mint*Leaf Princess, PB LaMancha doe. Plan on using her with my boer buck, Pretty much to solely make more LaBoers.

Probably won't have goats much longer, at least not long enough to start into LaManchas. But for the time being, she should work well in our herd. I'm applying to vet school this summer, and I'm far to busy to be sucessful in vet school unless we downsize. If I don't get in this year (my main issue is too few hours working with a vet, only have about 40hrs working with a vet...), I'll get more vet hours and try again next year. If THAT doesn't work out, plan on going for my Masters. Graduating with my Bachelors next December. If I get into vet school this year, I'll matriculate the following Fall. So, a lot is up in the air, but within a few years I'll probably have to get out of goats and rabbits, and become a real professional student. The only ones that would stick around are likely to be our oldies - the 3 worthless minis which I'll keep till they die, lol.

She looks very pretty from this angle! Love her name. Great plans for the future. I don't suppose you will be setting up practice in Missouri? We NEED you...

Your new girl looks pretty! Can you lease your goats out for a few years?

Utah needs more vets but I wouldn't wish Utah on anyone.

So happy for you!! Don't give up! Before I found HT, I found your website and emailed you a question. You responded and I do believe I told you then how proud I was that as a youngster you were so determined. I'll say that again Dona! Follow your dreams and keep at it! But I hear there is a shortage of new vet students so I hope they accept you promptly.

Thanks for the support guys. It's mainly because of this forum, my father, and the goats (of course) that I've stayed motivated through the years. There's been ups and downs and classes that I've struggled in. Even failed my first *EVER* exam in my life last year! Still passed that class (Biochemistry) with a 2.5, and I was darned proud of that grade - worked hard in it. And, did better than many of my classmates, believe it or not... probably one of the hardest classes at MSU.

Overal GPA sits at a 3.6 as of last semester, this semester is going very well too, so I have high hopes. ANS classes tend to be fun/interesting and easy 4.0's for me, generally. Quite a rigorous curriculum and considering how BUSY I am all the time between the farm, school, family, friends/boyfriend, pretty pleased with that GPA.

Doing a research project over the summer regarding Johnes disease and the possible development of a new ELISA. Should be tons of fun, working with a great professor and experience will be absolutely invalueable, not to mention my research creds toward graduation. Get to travel around taking samples and do (more) lab work.

The only thing I've considered recently is since working at DCPAH, I've considered becoming a DVM pathologist and practicing 'on the side'. Pathologists make a bit more money, with less investment in real estate for clinics and equipment... but keeping my options open. Hoping to specialize in small ruminants if possible (duh).

Sometimes I've considered downsizing before vet school. Life would certainly be easier. But it's hard to give it all up, too. Did that once and was miserable. At least when I'm in vet school/masters student I'll probably be way too busy to notice, lol. Not to mention I *might* not stay in-state for either of those...

Good luck no matter what you decide! I chose a different path early on and looking back I sometimes wish I would have chosen school first so I could have worked towards a job I probably would love more than what I actually do. Anyhoo, It's fun to see what you are up to and what plans you are evolving next!

Go get 'em Dona!!

Pretty girl and good job with school. You have a plan and a backup plan. That right there puts you way ahead of most students.
