Draft Goats

SOOOOO has anyone out there had any experience with draft goats? I am wondering how strong they are and how versatile? How hard are they to train? What would be a good breed for it?

I can't really answer your exact question, but I do have a picture of my husband and his grandma when he was about 2. They were sitting in a cart with 2 white goats hooked up to it that pulled it around. I was told that they used a pair of goats to pull that cart around all the time. They were big goats, but didn't look full-bred Sanaan in the pic to me. I do know that having "draft" goats isn't a new thing because that pic was taken over 50yrs ago. Apparently they used a big one to pull the plow for the garden too.

I have a draft goat. He is very helpful. He's pretty strong now that he is 5 yrs old, and will pull just about anything I ask of him. Goats are a cross between a dog and a horse when it comes to training. If you can train a dog, then you can train a goat. My wether is half Boer and half Nubian.

If you have any questions, I'd be glad to help.

A goat is capable of pulling twice it's body weight.
