Pregnant doe not doing well...Help

Found my Doe down this morning. She's due to freshen may 11th, this will be her first kidding. Had to make her get up, not interested in eating, and now that she's up she's not moving. Her temp is 100.7, pen mate is 102.3. Looks like she expelled her cud.

She's on free choice alfalfa, a couple handfuls of grain a day, free choice hay and minerals. She was copper bolused in December,

I went ahead and have her some probios, pure maple syrup 25ccs, and some selenium/Vit E. This is my first pregnant doe to have issues :/

not sure this is pregnancy related...
it may be more of a rumen, gut issue..acidosis?
that low of a body temp is VERY concerning...
any changes since you posted?

Acidosis treatment - in case that what this is....
NO grain (as in not ANY!!!)
Baking soda.. made into a drench
CD Antitoxin (50cc's per 200#)
Naxcel (for at least 5 days) have used Nuflor, when I didn't have Naxcel
Banamine - half doses twice a day - helps to smooth out the gut
Kao Pectin to coat the stomach (30cc) - every 4 hours as needed.. (very importatant to keep the gut coated!)
B vitamins

Is she shivering at all? My first thought with a pregnant/milking doe who has a low temp and is not wanting to eat is milk fever. I know she has had free choice alfalfa pellets but they still can get milk fever even when having calcium.

Has she had her BOSE? Up to date on worming? Any signs even from a few days ago of decreased appetite or being sluggish? What about her eye lids/gums? Pale or a nice red color?

Susie I am not sure this could be acidosis, when I dealt with that I never had a animal present with a sub temp like her doe. Not saying you are wrong just haven't seen a lower temp on an animal with acidosis (but it does make sense).

Mama2ws if it was my doe I would be giving her 30cc's CMPK orally or 40cc's of Calcium Gluconate sub-q along with a shot of Vit. B Complex sub-q and getting some warm fluid in her if she would drink some. You want to keep her temp up if this is milk fever, get a coat on her ASAP. I would also give her some probiotics ASAP to keep her gut in good working order.

I will be praying for you both today! Keep us updated!

my usual first thought would be milk fever...but for some reason.. this one didn't *feel* like mf...first freshner..still a month from kidding.. free choice alfalfa... she mentioned expelled cud...made me start wondering gut stuff...low temp can happen with anything, once it gets bad enough.. it's the body shutting down...

agree...we need more info...anything weird the last few days?

Even with her a month away from kidding, I'd still go ahead and hit her with CMPK. It could be pre-eclampsia, even this early on.

Hit her with the other suggestions as well. If a doe is going down fast, sometimes you have to try a lot of things to keep the bases covered.

Please let us know what's going on.

My doe displayed the toxemia symptoms a month before she gave birth. I too would treat with CMPK

She's holding her own tonight. Still acting sluggish, but getting up to drink. I honestly thought she was aborting earlier today, but she was just in pain and not contracting. My gut feeling is that she'll be okay. If she has any other issues I'll start the CMPK. I did give her calcium glutonate this morning. Thank you ladies for the support and advice. It's been a rough year and I was terrified we'd have another loss. I'll update in the morning.

As Justine said to do, please check eye color for parasites http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=...hart&FORM=IGRE

It's OK to worm does while pregnant, just not early on during implantation, anemia is deadly and I'd expect hypocalcemia with a doe having a worm load. In fact I think a lot of this hypocalcemia stuff can be traced to a worm load. Plus not worming right by using Safeguard and or just Ivermectin which doesn't work well in most areas.

I follow dairygoatinfo's schedule. She was wormed with Ivomec plus at 100 days bred. Her eyelids are nice and pink. Thank you for the advice though.

She was doing a little better today, nibbling grass and a few bites of alfalfa pellets. I'm optimistic that she's on the mend.
