TRIPLETS (first kidding and a question!)

I am SO excited. Today is not only Easter, it is my birthday and my 29th wedding anniversary. AND... my first kidding. Triplets! I was there to assist, dry, snuggle and adore. My question, the doe has not eaten much today. She drank a lot (warm water with some honey) and ate a small amount of grain, some whole wheat pizza crust (my daughter was eating pizza and mama goat DEMANDED she hand the crust over!) some carrot slices and a tiny bit of Chaffhaye. Is that normal or should be eating more? She is up nursing the babies, then napping, then up. Looks ok-ish. I am finding a lot to worry about. Babies look pretty sturdy to me, but what do I know?

Thanks in advance... Daryl in Maine

Giving birth to triplets can be exhausting. Do you have and nutridrench? I would give some more warm molasses water with a pinch of salt. Let her rest and see how she is tomorrow morning.

I make up a homemade electrolyte water for my does' when they kid.
It it:
1 liter warm water
2 TBSP. Honey
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda

Mine all Love this water.

Also make sure momma has plenty of calcium in her diet, worm her today & give the kids the liquid from 2 vitamin E capsules.

Congratulations on such a Great day too!

She is not looking too perky this AM. I saw one kid happily nursing while the mom was lying down. I put grain/chaffhaye and alfalfa pellets in a pan by her face and she was not interested. I mildly encouraged her to get up, she said "No, thank you." She was up last night at last check (11 PM.) When should I panic?

Take her temp, she may need a shot of antibiotics.
If you have banamine I would give her some.
Did she pass the placentas?

Now, I would be getting CMPK into her ASAP. BUT, you will be amazed at how fast they can bounce back when you get it in them. I have seen goats and cows out of whack post-kidding and when they get the "right stuff" into them you would never have known they were down.

I agree on the CMPK. If you don't have a vet close try & get injectable from a neighbor that has dairy cows or if nothing else available the CalMPK from TSC is a liquid, won't burn their mouths & my goats love it, get that & give about 30cc orally.

Diddo on the CMPK ! Keep her on it a few days after she shows improvement. I would also give her a vit. B complex shot to help stimulate appetite.
