Buck drama

The weather is decent today and the boys' area is dried out, so I decided to trim their hooves (I've been a bad girl and haven't trimmed them since late fall). I did Artie (the buck) first...took him to the big barn, got him wrestled up and locked into the milkstand, trimmed his hooves, and gave him a good brushing. I then returned him to his pasture and switched to Jim (the wether). The sounds that were coming out of Artie when he couldn't see his buddy sounded like what would happen if I had his nuts clamped in some vice grips. He was wailing and moaning so bad, I thought he might just have a heart attack. All is well now that the two have been reunited. Good grief, what a dramatic episode. I wish I could have recorded it for you all to hear. I was astounded.

Do your guys do that when they are separated?

I put a yearling buck up on a metal milkstand one time to clip hooves. The kind that folds up to go to shows with and the stanchion part slides into the floor part. He pulled the stanchion out of the floor and took off. The goat rodeo was on. All goats get freaky sometimes when you put them in a new situation and take them away from their buds.
