When Does Deliver

I thought about a poll, but that really doesn't provide enough information.

What I would like to ask is that each member list the number of their does that delivered their kids in the dark hours and then number of does that delivered their kids in the daylight hours so far this season.

all of mine delivered during the day this year! Very strange as they usually go during the night during the most terrible weather possible. I will say this year I had the worst time with odd problems like so many have this year. I can't blame the drought we had plenty of grass and hay last season. It was crazy.

We've been having daylight kiddings this year, too. First time.

The two small herds that started with goats from my herd also have had all daytime kiddings.

Only one went past sundown, and she was having problems with two trying to get out at the same time. I had to go in and push one back. Mine all go during the day normally. Always have.

Two years ago Rosie was about 3 am, last year 2 does in the middle of a bright, warm, sunny day (two weeks apart) and one about 10 at night but she had been working with a breech birth and she was a first freshener, this year, one at about 10 am and one about 8:30 pm.

Mixed here, too. Going from memory:

3/1: Paisley - abt 2pm
3/2: Kessa - abt 11am
3/3: Strudel - 2-3am
3/3: Lily - abt 2pm
3/5:Miss Hop - 2-3 am
3/5: Crystal - abt 11am
3/5: Lolita - abt noon
3/5: Mattie - abt 4:30pm
3/5: Vixen - abt 5:0pm

Definetely have a few go in the wee hrs of the morn. During kidding season I just think it should be SOP to check them a couple times per night at least. I was doing every hr or two.

I always give mine a talking to at bedtime and tell them they CANNOT have kids at night. I do NOT get up and check on goats or anybody else at night. They listen pretty good. LOL

A friend mentioned that it depends on when they are fed but couldn't remember the relationship. Mine only eat in the day. I don't supply hay and if they want something besides the grain on the stand they have to rustle it up for themselves.
