SAd news/good news

I got a call from my 25 year old niece last Saturday saying she just got home from work and her goat was having a baby. She thought she probably hadnt gotten pregnant because she thought they should have been born last month. I had told her they probably didnt take and to keep checking so she had. Home alone she sees a foot hanging out of her sweet little Rose. She calls and my husband and I talk her into going in and finding the other leg and head. scared she does it, a neighbor comes out and helps her to some degree, I could hear him in the back ground saying " you got it come on come on, there it is there it is" He was really trying to help her. She was quite freaked out. After finally getting the other leg my husband told her to pull gently downwards and not to be afraid. She did a great job! But when she pulled the leg tore off. I told her then it had already died inside her. She was pretty upset thinking she caused it, but I told her she didnt, after all that they found another baby that had been born apparently first but was already dead. She immediatley called the vet and got her antibiotics and drench and she is actually doing much better each day.

Then on Wednesday evening I noticed one of my really small goats, having goo, but it had a more red tinit to it, not what i am used to. I stayed with her, moved her to a pen and watched she just didnt act classic to the other kiddings we have been there for, she was shaking and the goo was a little thicker . After nothing for a while I went inside and came out every 45 min-1 hour to check on her, I put her mother in with her to keep her calm.
I finally fell asleep inside from being so tierd from the night before. When I woke up it was 645 am (the last time I was out was around midnight - 1am) When I got out there she had had the baby but it was dead. She didnt have anymore and I put her back out after some drench and dewormer. Oh and yes it was a girl, so three girls lost now. I wonder if she was just too early They should all kid between March 19th and April 14th. So she would have been only a week early. SHe never got an udder, but I would like to milk her. I put her on the stand today and she does have milk, but teats are sure small. She obviously didnt like it, she hasnt been handled as much.

NOW FOR THE GOOD NEWS!
The reason I was so tired was the night before our Great Pry gave birth to 8 puppies. Was too cold in barn, so they are now in my basement under a heat light. And our momma who has never been in the house is a little confused. She has finally let us let her outside to go see daddy, and potty. But those stairs that come up she aint doing it!

SInce some of my other goats do not have ligs now and some are squishy I am going to go back to my calander and count the days again. I wrote down that we put the males with them on October 17th for 4 weeks

I told my husband the other day that I thought I read on here that a lot have been still born, and he said can we figure out why? And then he said the only thing he can figure out is the drought....but I dont know, it is what so many of us have in common.

So I had to get a new computer so I dont have the calculation chart for gestation, and for some reason I thought it was 153 days but I guess 150? So that would mean they are due starting tomorrow. Which I knew I was four days out and it could be anytime, but I guess I had the date a few days off

I use a chart I found online, if you want I can look for it?

I am getting live kids, but it seems like its taking a bit more out of the does this year. ?? maybe the hay isn't giving what they need, with it being so hot and dry? it sure is disturbing, so much trouble for everyone this year.

I use the goat gestation calendar and it says March 16 is 150 days after Oct 17. Since they can go 145 to 155, any time now

Went out this morning to Crystal just having her babies. Her ligs were loose yesterday bag was larger but not tight, I went out around midnight and she was out in bigger pen by herself, which was kinda odd, but our male Pry was out in pasture so I thought she was seeing what he was doing. As I got to the barn I heard crying babies, as I got there I found one still in the sack. I hurried and opened it and turned upside down rubbed it and tried to get it to react. It was already dead (of course a girl) but she does have two more and one is boy and one is girl and I have them moved to the pen inside the barn. So today is really the day they should have started and the one that had hers on Wed wasnt really early since that was only 3 days early.
Ok I guess I am home for the next 4 weeks.
Thanks everyone.
