Exclamation Kids are only nursing one side.

Just like the title says, Ruby's kids are only nursing the right side. I milked her out some on the left last night because I noticed she was bigger on that side. Came out this morning to find her completely engorged. The left teat felt warmer than the right teat too. So, I milked that side out completely. Any advice as to what I should do? Or... just keep milking out the left teat? I can't imagine the kids will be able to sustain forever on just one side. Help?

How many kids? Have you been able to test the milk on side they are not nursing?

I have a doe (heavy milker) with 2 kids that the same thing is occurring. Her milk is good; however, the kids only want to nurse one side. I started milking the other out; but that did not help that I could tell. Yesterday morning I milked the heavy side out and put tape on the nipple of the side they've been nursing. By that evening it was obvious the kids had found the other side and was nursing it; so I took the tape off. This morning both sides look about the same; but will keep an eye on that udder as it may well be I will need to tape one side again.

She has two kids. I have a strip cup. There are no chunks in the milk. I assume she felt warmer on that side because she was so engorged, poor thing. She was kicking at me as I milked it out until it got to a normal amount, so I know it didn't feel that great. I will try putting tape on the side they are nursing today and see if there is any improvement by this evening.

Yup. Was going to say the same. Tape the favored side for four hours at least.
