sad sad morning/IndyGardenGal read this

Don't even know how to tell IndyGardenGal (Mary) that we found Gloomy's doeling (that she was buying) dead this morning when we went out to bottle (she was fine at the midnight bottle).. Looked like she died in her sleep (going to guess she was under the pile when they all went to bed after their bedtime bottles).. This is our first kid loss in years (FIRST ever bottle doeling loss).. Jess & I sat and cried while we fed everyone else this morning.. MARY.. I am so terribly sorry (I know kids can be suffocated, but we have always been so careful.. keeping them in smaller groups.. making sure their sleeping shelter is big enough for everyone -and open ended, to cut down on dog-piling).. I don't know what/how to changes things to make it safer now...I'm going to guess it was just a freak accident that won't happen again (I have to think that or I will become Obsessive and stare at the kid pens all night long on the cameras. (already made Jess go back out to make sure Lottie's boy was just sleeping)..

I know you were wanting a doeling friend for Amelia's baby girl.. Maybe Gimme's other doeling? I am keeping her litter sister. She's really pretty. I'd let you have her for the same price. (I don't want it to sound like I'm just brushing aside Gloomy's doeling's death..it's just that I want to make things right.. I feel so awful that this happened).. took new pictures yesterday

susie, crying in the Ozarks

the shock is as bad as the saddness... All the other kids were so hungry and ready for their bottles.. I had to just lay her body outside the barn.. my son let the dogs out to pee... Moon (the american bulldog) found the body (she had never seen one of her *babies* dead before).. she licked and cried and tried to get her to get up... all I could do was keep on feeding bottles.. and tell her it was alright... her reaction just added to the sadness.

(I am having a hard time getting excited about Sunny & Twyla kidding today.. BUT.. I need to focus on them..trying not to get burnt out this year)

I'm so sorry! Freak accidents occur and there nothing you can do to prevent it sometimes. ((Hugs)) I know how sad you are about it, we all understand.

I am so sorry Yarrow! That is so very sad. Maybe something just wasnmt quite "right" and she passed on. Who really know. We all know you do the absolute best by your goats. It is probably better that this happened now if it was going to rather when she was in her new home. It's very kind of you to offer another doeling for replacement.

I'm sorry. It happens every now and then. I prefer to think that something wasn't "right" and this was the best way.
Went out many years ago to find one of a beautiful set of triplet Nubian doelings dead in their barn stall. No reason, just curled up and dead. Sadly, it happens.

Oh no! I grieve your loss. I know how horrible that feels.

Celebrating the new life coming from Twyla and Sunny doesn't mean that the doeling's death didn't effect you - it's just acknowledging the other side of the circle.
<<<hugs>>>

it's not just the dead doeling that has me sort of flat about their kiddings today ..just too many does/too many kids/ too much workload/too fast...sadly these are the top two kiddings I had been the most excited about...just need nice easy kiddings and pretty babies to get my second wind

Emotional overload.
Take a break, take a nap, take a drive, meditate. You can't give what you don't have, and right now you've got nothing left. I'm sure if you ask Jess she can handle it for an hour or two. Walking is what charges my batteries. You know what charges yours - go do it for an hour.

don't I wish..wonderful advice... today however is NOT a take time off day.. it's a watch two does in labor/burn horns & tattoo (buyers start coming tomorrow)..poor Jess is so overworked now as it is.. It's still too cold to take zade to the milkroom (he does get bundled up and out to feed bottles).. but the concrete floors keep the milkroom cold.. SO..I have been staying in with him while Jess **HAND MILKS** 12 does/twice a day.. comes in and pours up ALL the bottles (26 of them 3x's a day)..it's a never ending cycle of STUFF (worked just fine back when it was just me & her.. no baby, no brain surgery recovery).. just need to spread the kiddings out more (in the fall doing them all in a 2 week span SOUNDED like an excellent idea.. now??? maybe not such an excellent idea LOL).. some of the kids leave this weekend.. more the next.. after these two does today.. no more kids added until mid April

Jess is planning on getting pregnant again this fall (Nov if things work out as planned).. so we will probably only breed 1/2 the herd next year.. that will really cut the work load.. and we won't be hitting the wall (thankfully she & I don't crash and burn at the same time and we recover quickly LOL)

again thank you all for the kind words.. I still feel awful for Mary

Oh Yarrow I know you just feel sick about Indygardengal. It will be better once she knows what happened and you can talk to her about it. I wish so bad that I was there to help you! I think you should adopt me but I do come with some baggage....
Hang in there! We are all sending you supportive vibes!!!
