New Doe Kid with Weak Hock

One of my LM doe's triplets has a weak left hock; it goes forward when she stands. Is there something I can give her to help? Everyone else (her brother and sister, and my other 2 kids born today) is fine. I don't have BoSE, and my vet is extremely busy today. Will it strengthen on its own or should I be worried?

Give her the liquid from a couple vitamin E capsules. That should help.

If you don't have BoSe, you can give her the liquid from a vit e capsule. Not as good as BoSe, but better than nothing.

Thanks! I knew there was something I could give, but wasn't sure what.

Called hubby at work and asked him to pick up a bottle of vitamin E gel caps on his way home. When he got here, he had bought the twin pack. Not sure how much he thought the doeling needed, but we've got enough vitamin E for all the kids in the county and then some! LOL

Her hock does look like it's strengthening the more she walks, but I gave her the gel from 2 caps to be safe. Thanks again for the info

The E is a good idea if you can't get Bose. Most weak hocks will strengthen on their own as the kid walks more and grows stronger and steadier on her feet. I've never given anything for a buckling hock and they have always been fine by day two. Now weak pasterns or knuckles are easy to splint if they don't fix themselves fast enough. Hocks are a little more difficult and usually fix themselves.

I figured it was just a matter of using it and letting it strengthen, and it didn't seem to hinder her one bit today. When she decided it was time to eat, she was up and at it, even with her little hock buckling inward on her

I give every baby born here the liquid from 2 capsules right after they get a good first drink from the momma & they have a really long shelf life so you should be good for a long time.
