good news in my inbox this morning!

Found some good news in my inbox just now... Back a couple years ago we began to test the whole herd for G6S Status... I had a couple does come back as CARRIERS.. the two that was my own breeding.. I sold into a meat goat herd, to raise little meat goats LOL.. the other was a doeling that I purchased from the Pacific Northwest.. (she cost me more, then I get selling 3 of my own homebred doelings, not including her transportation costs) so I was more then a little sad that she turned out to be a G6S Carrier (BUT, since I don't have ANY G6S Carrier bucks.. we had no worries about her having G6S affected babies)...BUT she can still produce other carries (even bred to a NORMAL status buck, the odds are 50% being born carriers)... Nite's (My-Enchanted-Acres Night Moves) dam is a fantastic doe (she LA'd 92EEE, she is a 6*M SGCH doe, her granddam was a USDA Elite doe 3 years running).. Couldn't wait to breed Nite and see if she was as much like her own dam, as I hoped she'd be..alas, she kidded year before last 3 weeks early (couldn't save her kids).. her heat cycles and my own need to kid in a tight time frame, kept her from being bred last year..BUT.. this year I did breed her.. she gave birth to TWIN DOES last week.. I've been on pins & needles since then (trying not to get attached or excited until blood was drawn and the doelings tested)... results came back this morning... BOTH little girls are G6S NORMAL!! -they are really, nice babies.. one is a dark blue roan with a white belly band, the other is black and white and covered in big moon spots...NOW, I can breath LOL (and decide which one or BOTH, I will be adding to the herd) ... Nite has a lovely udder and is milking well.. so all around the sadness of the test results have been somewhat softened with the birth of these two...

so, nothing big, but sometimes I just like to post HAPPY things this time of year (this board deals with a lot of stress and sorrows.. this year esp)..

Thanks, Susie. We've been down the G6S road and I KNOW what a relief that is! Congratulations!

Congrats Susie, that is wonderful news! The G6S stuff is one of the reasons I picked Alpines over Nubians. That and the noise level, lol. Though lately my Alpines have been getting obnoxiously loud thinking it is feed time EVERY time I walk by their area, lol.

Great news! Can't decide if you should keep 1 or both little doelings without pictures but I'm going to say BOTH!

THAT is great news! We are almost finished with the testing...doing 1 or 2 goats a month. $50.00 bucks, plus the high cost of overnight shipping the blood is a real burden!
So far all of ours are normal - two more to go. I know how you feel because I know how we will feel when and if these last two are normal!! So glad that worked out!!
