Here's part of our little farm, in bitesized pieces.

Dosie (Now Hyacinth) and Saffron. Saffie is so tiny, when I hold her, she just nestles into my hand, and I've got small hands. It's like holding a half grown kitten. <3

Violet, the Pygora with the cashmere coat, and last year's kids, her first kidding ever, totally unassisted. I was worried because the kids' father was full pygmy with a BIG head.-

I don't have a pic of Basil, the NiPygora buck we have. He's lovely, I just haven't got one at the mo. However, while trying to take a picture of our sweet Cicilian mini donk Onslo, our My Little Pony, Daisy the attention hog, had to insert herself into the frame. To the exclusion of all else.


We also have angora rabbits, geese, ducks, chickens, and will be adding sheep eventually. I've raised sheep in the past, and rather miss them. I've found a flock I plan to buy from in NC, of beautiful, fine fibered Icelandic/Friesian crosses. <3

I love them all, so much. I've had a few times in my life when I was without farm animals, and was miserable. When I've got critters around me, I thrive. I think my kids do, too.
I forgot to mention the guineas and the bees. I'm such a bad farm mom, LOL.
The Angora goats have been shaved since the pic was taken. They are a fairly recent addition to the farm, and hadn't been sheared in a year's time. Angoras need to be sheared twice yearly. Anyway, Father Thyme had this nasty, scaly bare spot on the back of his neck that I wanted to get to the bottom of. It turns out they have some kind of parasite living on their skin. I was thinking lice at first, but the more I think about it, the less I'm inclined to think they are. They were small and white wriggly things with orange heads. Less than 1/16th of an inch long. Anyway, we poured canola oil over both the angoras and rubbed it in, and whatever they are, they seem to be disappearing, being smothered. I'm going to mix some tea-tree EO and geranium EO into the oil for the next annointing, and hopefully that will finish killing the pests off, and help soften the goats' skin again. Poor darlings were a mess under all the hair, and under condition. I was glad I went ahead and sheared them, even though it is early. Letting a parasite load like that go unnoticed could have been very bad for the goats. We gave up the Saanen we had purchased last year as she was literally trying to kill Violet- not just goat play. At one point she knocked Vi out and then stood on her. It took us a long time to get Vi feeling better after all of that. We also sold the little brush goat billy we'd been raising, because we really wanted to tighten our focus and raise to a certain standard. I think we've made some great strides forward with the animals we have now.
