Let's talk about something...FUN...NAMES!
Katie and I have been sitting here trying to name ALL of our kids. (At the very least, the keepers and the ones that we want to register with names before they leave.)
How do you do it? Names to us have to have significance. Yarrow is FABULOUS with names. She is so witty.
How do the rest of you decide on names?

Sometimes we wait and let them name themselves with their behavior. Sometimes we let the grandkids name them, which can be really fun since they are so young and sometimes we have to decifer or translate! Or we use the significance of their birth day. I drive DH nuts sometimes when it takes me a few weeks to settle on naming the keepers.

Because I can be quite forgetful about who sired whom, I try to include the first initial of each of the parents' names. And, as this is the "D" tattoo year, I've been tryin' to come up with "D" names.
Example:
Dee Dee's doelings are Nehi Minis CD Delightful Denise and CD Delightful DanYell. (C for Charlie and D for Dee Dee) Sugar's kids are Nehi Minis JS Dora and JS Duncan. (J for Jack and S for Sugar).
Hope that's a li'l bit helpful. Naming *IS* fun! As you come up with possibilities, jot 'em down, or refer to a baby name book.

I always used people names in the past but since our goats are registered now I just have so much trouble coming up with names like I read here that folks give to their goats.
Might just stick to the people names.
Like FordZoo sometimes it takes me awhile to figure out a name for them.

I'm an English teacher, and DH is an English major in college. We're both bibliophiles. All of our goats are named for favorite authors. We have Zora (Hurston), Emily (Dickenson), Kate (Chopin), Madeleine (L'Engle), Morgan (Llywelyn), Willa (Cather), Isabel (Allende), Walt (Whitman), and Percy (Shelley). We don't plan to keep any kids, especially boys, so they all get called "Willy" until they go to new homes. Right now we have Willy 1 and Willy 2. We figure there are so many authors named William that we're covered that way. DH has given names to our two doelings born this year - uh oh. They're being called Virginia (Woolf) and Carson (McCullers). I've warned him that giving them identities makes it harder to sell them.
What can I say? "Nerd" is a compliment around here.

I have a couple ways:
1` all my girls end with the "E" sound so that is a factor (doeling born yesterday is cream color with black stripe and frosting throughout like salt & pepper and she is spunky so Peppy fit!!)
2` I like the name to *fit* the goat ie; personality, color, twins ect (last year trip boys Larry, Curly and Mo because they were a hoot to watch while they played)
3` Sometimes it take me a bit to figure them out
For the boy they generally get named for their attributes or personality (One ofour bucks is red paint boer with a ring of white around legs = Ringo)
And then sometimes I let the kids or boyfriend name them and I end up with oddball names like Anaconda, this year he is pushing for Burrito and Enchilada ???

This year I'm using "V" names. I have Vanessa, Virginia, Valera, Vashti, Victoria and Violet so far. Waiting to see what Glennis does. If she gives me a doeling she'll be Veronica. If she gives me twin doelings I'll have to think on it. LOL

One year it was NCIS characters, but usually it's just what seems to fit.
We do have Jubilee and Tyrell, based on Gena's children and Louis La'Mour characters.

Oh this might take me a minute lol. I will go by how they came here.
Monkey because when she was a newborn she looked just like a little monkey. Cherry came with her name from the breeder. Her reg. name is Just Because DZ Cherry Bud. Johnny Goat was named after his owner my at the time 4 year old nephew. He wanted a male goat that was orange... so yep he got it. Oh and you cannot call him Johnny it is Johnny Goat... or Mr Goat... yep my nephew is a hoot. GoGurt my mom named her because when she was born she was tubing her in the livingroom and the little stinker was fighting like crazy. And mom said okay Go Go GoGurt... (the GoGurt yogurt commercial was on) Pepsi came because we had a soda round of kids that year (When mom bred Boers). Addie came with the name her reg name is Just because Farms SP- Addition. Chime came with the name again from the breeder hers is Just Because KWS Wind Chime. Carma we actually got to name. Before my mom ever left her ex he told her all the time she would never own a registered goat and they were worthless because you can't eat papers. Well when she was leaving she told him something along the lines that watch what you say Karma will come back and bite you. Well she was not here even a week and she had her very one very first picked out herself registered LaMancha we then named Just Because AN Amazing Carma (spelled with a C because it was the C year.). BooBoo because well he was not planned AT ALL!!!
Now to our 2013 babies.
Dunkin was the first born and I honestly do not know how we came up with that, and actually I need a good registered name for him. Delilah was next, I had that named picked out looooong time ago. I loooove that name and would of named a daughter (human kid) that if I wanted kids. Her brother came next and we just knew it was going to be another girl and when mom seen this flashy looking baby and opened it's legs she yelled out to me "Dangit its a boy." Soooo... his name became Dangit hoping his registered name will be It Happens Dangit I'm a boy. Then came DumDum and I had that one picked long ago from the movie Night at the Musuem were the Easter Island heads called him DumDum and wanted Gum Gum (gum balls). So her name is It Happens I'm No DumDum. Her brother is Num Num because that is what he looked like he was saying for the first two weeks of life.
Then came Drama and Lieutenant Dan. Drama is Carma's doeling. So her registered name will be something along the lines of It Happens I'm Carma's Drama. Lieutentant Dan started out as Dapper Dan but mom and Eric changed it to Lieutentant Dan one day. Then we have Dip n Dot (he is the flashly white and black buckling that should of been a girl!!!) and his brother Doug.. he was not the smartest at birth and Eric said he reminded him of the guy Doug off the movie Multiplicity.
Then we have Dumplin and Gremlin. Dumplin started out as Doh. Because she is Monkey's daughter and I didn't want Monkey bred but they had other opinions on that. So it was suppose to be It Happen's I'm a Doh (best Homer Simpson voice). Well she just didn't fit it and one day mom was loving on her and said something along the lines of you are just so sweet I could eat you just like an Apple Dumplin. Her brother looked like a Gremlin before you fed them after midnight.
The last two are Darla and Dopey. Darla just looks like a Darla and funny thing is I could not remember our breeder's mom's name and thought it might be that but wasn't sure. When I texted her and told Jenny (our breeder) her new name she laughed and said she would let her mom know we named a goat after her lol. Dopey was named by Eric. Dopey (bless his heart) is our spherical needs kid. He is mentally challenged and looks like hes on some type of downer drugs all the time.
We try to fit names together (never seems to happen though) but we do always follow the ADGA letter for those that are being registered.

Now Min, they either earned or deserved those!
One of my foundation does was Mystify. All her doelings got a Mys in front.
Miss Behavin got song titles after hers. LilSkugirl, Maggie. Brikhaus. When that song came on the radio she'd perk up.
Grace probably thought most of the songs on christain radio were all about her.
When Auto Repeater was sire it was a piece of cake.
Rimfire, Concealed Weapon, (buck) Lady Derriger, Shotgun, who always ran from me.
Now that we have OneFourRichie we call "Darlin", I dont know what we're gonna do. Maybe they'll just have #'s & grow into a name. Thankfully FFA named their three.

Donna you have some pretty creative names there, loved hearing the history! Now they make sense. Gogurt, hahaha. Always wondering how you came up with Monkey. And Carma. Yes!
We've also had The Ruckus Brothers who were bottle babies & Dingaling Sisters. Cant recall their real names.

Erik and Dryna (pronounced Drin-ah) were to be cart goats, and DH wanted to name them after the goats that pulled Thor's chariot.
But those goats have just awful names. So Dryna is a nice Norse name and Erik is from one of DD's favorite movies, Erik the Viking
Jodie and Stormy came here with their names. Storm is a nice name for a buck, but eventually he will be a wether and then he will be Stormy Wether
Honeysuckle I really, really wanted to name Wild Rose, or Briar Rose, after the sweet, simple little white wild roses I love so much. But, I got outvoted (I generally let DH have final say on names - it keeps him happy) and DD and DH got their choice of Honeysuckle.
We've never kept any kids from Dryna, this year we are, and they'll get Norse names.
Honeysuckle's 2 kids are Rowan, the doeling, and Barley, the buckling. I really love herbal names in general. Rowan is as strong and vibrant as her namesake and Barley has a sweet, homely personality and it's a good color match too, he's just the color of a ripe field of barley.
If Jodie kids here, her kids will get gemstone names. As soon as she got here, everyone just started calling her Ruby. She doesn't answer to either one, she comes running to Heeeeere goat! But it is so remarkable how everyone who sees her just starts calling her Ruby so we'll go with gemstone names for her offspring.

My bucks registered name doesn't particularly suit him so I took to calling him Maynard. Any time I expect him to start jerking and saying "work, work, work..." LOL He has that funny silly almost vacant look but is so gentle and laid back.
