Jackie update (from the *boring* thread)

I posted that we were having a less then boring time with Jackie (one of my smaller framed nubian does).. she was induced and SHOULD have kidded this afternoon .. like Divinity did.. Divinity had triplets. .2 bucks and a doeling..no problems at all.. Jackie was really uncomfortable, but not pushing.. I kept checking her cervix.. it just wasn't hardly dilating.. I could feel the tips of toes back behind it, so I knew a kid was *near*.. this went on all afternoon.. I manually worked on it.. I massaged lute into it.. I gave more lute.. not much change.. by 9:30.. she was starting to show some stress.. SO.. I went to work.. good thing we did.. that BIG (as in HUGE) single buckling wasn't EVER coming out on his own.. Actually it took me, jess & my 6'3" son to get him delivered.. she was in so much pain (we were using every trick I knew)... I finally told 'em to get the gun (couldn't stand seeing her like that.. all I could get out, even with two of us pulling were his legs.. head (HUGE head) not budging at all.. the look in my kids' eyes when I gave up and asked for the gun.. well, it did something. .spurred me on for one final rally.. We flipped her again.. this time to her side instead of all the way over.. Lifting the leg, on the side that he felt *hung up the most on*.. lifted it as high and out as we could.. I felt the slightest budge.. then nothing.. forced her (she was so tired) to her feet for a final attempt.. I pulled with everything in me.. and POP.. there he flew... still alive.. really striking.. fancy roaning, tons of white.. (We weighed him.. just a couple ounces shy of 14lbs!!!).. Jackie is sore and a bit socky.. gave her a good hit of banamine, some baking soda..a beer.. she is one her feet and alert (watching her all night to make sure she doesn't push and prolapse her uterus due to the cerivical damage ( irritated at the best, torn at the worst)... baby huey has taken his colostrum and is in with Divinity's trio... will post pics tomorrow.. (Please keep jackie in your thoughts.. she had a ROUGH night and came as close to a bad final ending as I've ever had, without it ending that way)... (just in case someone wonders why we didn't call a vet.. we are MILES upon MILES, as in hours from a vet that will do a night time emergency call.. we are TOTALLY on our own nights/weekends.. so we do the best we can do.. tonight we got lucky)

Poor Jackie but lucky Jackie too!! That could have been so very much worse. She's lucky to have an owner who watched her like a hawk and helped her all you could and were prepared to give her mercy if she needed it.

Sending good, healing vibes to Jackie to get her through the night.

And totally feeling you on the vet thing. Nights and weekends, is something happens to the dogs, we are driving an hour at least and lucky to be seen. The livestock - there are 2 vets out here and neither one could help me the last 2 times I've called them, and one doesn't even answer the phone half the time and never calls back. At least it wasn't emergencies. Some places you're just on your own

Wow an almost 14# buckling is amazing and a little terrifying! Great job you 4! That's one tough doe to have a 14# kid ripped out of her. I guess the saying they can't stay in there forever didn't apply to him. You're amazing Susie!

so glad I induced her...today was day 145....she usually kids on her own on day 151...so this guy would have had almost another week to bake!! pushing 14lbs and his teeth haven't erupted yet...no way we would EVER have gotten him out.

jackie has been up eating hay..she is now chewing her cud

Tell me you're going to have a rip roaring EXCITING day tomorrow, will ya? so that it will turn out all boring and routine.

Nice work saving that doe.

oh my..I'm sorry it didn't stay boring! That sounds exhausting physically and emotionally. You did a great job on saving them both. Sending tons of healing vibes to Jackie. I know she is in the best hands to help with the healing.

Reading your account brought back vivid memories for me. Flip, flop, back, up on the feet. I, too, am thrilled you got that boy out of there. As you and I have talked, I am going to be proactive the rest of the season. At least with the ones I KNOW for sure when they were bred. What is up with all of the overdue does we have had? Anyway, GREAT save. I, too, hope you are blessed with a BORING day.

It's just amazing that these does can deliver (with help!) a 14# kid. Not many humans have a 14# baby and look how much bigger we are! Hoping she does okay for you.

My FF Belle had a BIG baby boy (and he had a sister that shot right out after him) 2 weeks ago, if she was a cow or horse I would have had to put chains on and winch him out, I pulled for all I was worth to get him out. I thought I'd wrecked her or him, but she's fine and so was he. Wish I had weighed him. Later that day he was already acting bucky and on "warm" days when they go outside for a few hours, he's either chasing does and screaching or standing by the buck pen in awe of the boys. I induced her for day 146.

yipppeeee for BORING>>> Lottie-Dottie-Doe.. just kidded BIG (but NOT HUGE LOL) twin bucklings.. 10 minutes to go out, deliver, milk her and back inside with them.. Nice looking boys... especially the first one. serious herd sire quality.. rich red with some black penciling.. big white spots... the other guy is no slouch.. he is frosted, speckled and splashed.. he too is brown, but a lighter shade (Lottie's line NEVER does black, no matte who I breed her to.. but it's a line that is spotted out for generations back.. she also has great udder attachment and LOVES to milk... she is one of my more lovely dovey does.. so happy it was an easy birth (GLoomy & Olive will go later today.. they were watching us with Lotti trying to get into the act LOL)...

Jackie is bright eyed and perky this morning.. swollen in the rear (prep H will be her friend for a few days LOL).. but otherwise you would never know anything happened last night.. big fat baby boy is finally up on his feet (I pulled him so hard, I knew he'd be sore and slow to rise being so big & long)... once we get the other two does kidded out, we'll try to get pictures (thankfully.. they are the last two for a WEEK...feels like a vacation hehehe)

Man, that is some story! Glad you didn't have to let her go. Nothing like a determined woman...unless it's a determined woman with children watching!! Completely understand the lack of vet help. We have no emergency services here. Vet told me recently, "It would take us an hour to get there and by that time it would probably be too late." They will (for an arm and a leg) make a house call by appointment for blood draw, etc. That is not much help!

Poor Jackie girl. So glad she was with someone with a lot of kiddings under her belt. Any chance of that goat train heading towards Texas? I can't wait for pictures.
