Today was busy... but kidding season is over!

Since the wee hours of the morn, we've had 5 does kid. I'm all done kidding out goats for now! Funny - all of their duedates is tomorrow. Final count is 10 does, 10 bucks. Plus the first buckling that didn't make it because dad didn't know the doe was kidding... so grand total kids born is 21 kids. Not too shabby!

First this morning was Miss Hop, who I already posted about kidding in the wee hrs of the morn with twin doelings.

Then Crystal had a slightly traumatic birthing of a single HUGE buckling. He's just shy of 11lbs... She just didn't want to stretch and I wonder if she wasn't fully dialated, but she was pushing hard and had just a nose right inside there that I could feel with my finger... His feet were right behind the cervix, so it was a normal presentation just hard to maneuver in there. She was sore and seemed zoned out for hours. Remembered that I had some meloxicam so I crushed up 6 pills and mixed it with some Keto-gel (energy gel). She's moving around, nursing, and looking for food now. She is sore though. She's being a great momma.

I had noticed Lolita in labor, nesting out by the hay bale earlier. After Crystal had hers, I went to check and found Lolita with her brand new doeling. While drying her off, I discovered that if Momma thinks you're hurting her precious baby, she will try to bite your face repeatedly... Thank goodness for my hat which was protecting my head! Lolita is a wild doe, but a great momma. Moved her inside shortly after because it's windy today.

Next was Mattie, Lolita's dam. She's an old pro at 9 years old, and she had a super easy birthing of triplets. At first I thought it was 2 does 1 buck, because I felt between the back legs really quickly on the last kid... Thought I felt testes but must've felt a little mammary because sure enough, it tinkles like a girl...

And finally and most recently, Vixen had a textbook kidding of twins, 1 buck 1 doe.

Ears dried and everybody nursed. At first I tubed that big buckling of Crystals because he was not active after being born - he even had eye tracking like a seizure after I got him out... but is now just peachy.

I am soooo looking forward to sleeping through the night. The past 5 nights I've been up every hour 'round the clock.

I only had one alpine bred for March - she kidded Quads on 3/2. 2 bucks, 2 does. I had 9 does kid this week. The minis don't get bred any more - too many kidding problems and they cost more to raise than they're worth.
