Pregnant Pygmy

I have a doe that was in with a buck for several months so I'm not sure when she was bred. He has been gone now since November 18 so if I calculated correctly she will be due anytime from now til April 17. Which frustrates me but it is my fault. Her utter has started forming, how long before they give birth once this happens?

Any help is greatly appreciated. I have had goats less than a year and am still learning. Unfortunately, I have learned some very hard lessons.

All goats are different in how their udders change during pregnancy. All you can do is keep a close eye on her. I was in the same situation and was checking (through the night) every 2 hours for 6 weeks! Mine didn't have an udder until she delivered. Watch for the mucus plug that gets released 1-2 weeks b4 delivery. It's easy to miss though. Have your kidding kit ready and by the door. Make sure your camera is charged!

Honestly I don't give much to udder development as is seems to very greatly between goats. I watch Hoo Haa's and check ligamnets, watch for hollowing around the tailhead and just under the spine behind the ribs..Happy waiting game....we've all been there..it's NOT fun!!

Udders are variable. If she's a first timer (called First Freshener), she may be close, or she may be six weeks out.

One udder, two halves, two teats. My poor veterinarian is a bovine specialist, and he keeps calling the parts of a goat's udder ... quarters. LOL

We have had goats whose udder developed six weeks out and others who didn't get much of an udder at all until the day after they gave birth. Six of a dozen and one and half of the other with udders. Ligaments are much more telling.

Okay, when I get home I'm going to check her tail ligaments. I have noticed a discharge off and on for about two weeks. I had worried she had lost it until yesterday her udder had started filling out over night and she is getting larger by the day seems like. Wish me luck, I've never checked tail ligaments before so I really don't know if I can tell whats going on.

Thanks!
